Ahh, Mandelson, the rentboy shagging, champagne socialist, twice had to resign from the cabinet for dodgy dealings, he should be in prison for his dealings with Geoffrey Robinson, £373,000 loan to buy a posh house and he gets away with it, now, who's wife was it that loaned her brother 20k to help him get on the ladder and her husband ended up going to jail for it?

I would because exactly the same answer would be true. If the vote had been 52-48 in terms of remaining and then the government had wanted it could have left the EU but politically it would be very, very unlikely. Same as now in reverse.

    This really is get confusing.

The Express, pro brexit, claim, according to their own poll, that 9 out of 10 people would vote the same in a second referendum and hence their is no need for one. To me that means 10% of the population would vote differently. 33 million voted and so 3.3 million people have changed their mind, potentially. The winning margin was about 1.5 million. Call me thick but couldn't that change the result?

In a situation where all the votes that changed were from the leave camp then the majority for the remainers would be three time the current leave margin.

Now more information about the consequences of leaving or staying are known doesn't letting people have a say on something that is more clear makes sense ?

We don’t know but, for the purposes of argument, if all 10% changing votes were from leave to remain, wed have 58-42 for Remain. So it would not be a minor change

Also worth bearing in mind that there would be about 1.4 million new voters eligible to vote in a 2nd referendum and last time the youth vote was about 70-75% for remain.

But there’s also 1.0 million joining my age group and, with honourable exceptions (comme moi) anyone turning 65 suddenly becomes a right wing reactionary.

It's a bit of a fallacy that people change their views as they get older. They often retain them but society changes and so their views now seem more reactionary. But the flip side of the youth vote is that a some of the older vote which is overwhemingly Brexit have not to put to fine a point on it err died.

All the Leave voting buggers I know are hanging on in case there’s a second referendum

One thing that changes views is being a pensioner, self interest can seem different to when you were in your 40’s and a wage slave

You mean the ones who fought for democracy in two WW2?
Is that the same 1.4 million new voters who the government are gonna ban from buying fizzy energy drinks because they are too stupid to realise it ain't good for them, you mean those useful idiots?

Well there was 36% of over 65's voted for remain and that definitely included some veterans

    https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ld-war-veterans-urge-britain-stay-in-eu-video

If they restrict it for under 16's makes a degree of sense but if they restrict it for under 18 then strikes me as stupid government!

So 64% of over 65's vote leave including a lot more war veterans and you find four people in the Grauniad , one being a lord, urging them to vote remain, <doh>typical msm bullshit to brainwash the gullible

The problem with these so called new voters they know even less than the rest of us nor can they be bothered to find out to make a proper judgement, They also have a tendency to go with the flow.

It's actually difficult/impossible to find any stats on how actual veterans voted as they would have been 89 upwards when they voted and account for just 0.9% of the population - most breakdowns with in the over 65 group went as far as 80 but didn't get polling for veterans.
