I don't understand the 'pride' in this. Someone is born with a mental defect and they can be proud? How so?
I was watching a documentary about JD Sallinger about his life and his 30 plus years of writing Catcher in the Rye. Now I've never read it, but he fought in WW2 and he saw what no one should see. The sacrifices and casualties were enormous. He was in the D-Day landings and when they eventually got in land, they were losing whole platoons just crossing one field. Then he saw charred bodies after the Germans locked people inside buildings and set them on fire. He actually went mad, but got treatment. a bit off thread but it really opened my eyes.
