Don't know about protests or riots but as it was ten years ago now I'd be surprised if there weren't any repercussions after this. Surely there was some kind of appeal, Judge sanctioned or something ? I'm at work at the moment so I don't have time to find out, I'll leave that to the more able googlists among us..
