With Savile, Starmer wasn't the reviewing lawyer - it was that lawyer that decided not to proceed with prosecution - not helped by the police not joining up separate complaints against Savile and the victims not wanting to give evidence. A later QC led review said that the DPP wasn't involved but things could have been pushed through if the complaints had been linked as the victims may have thought they'd have been believed. Even Tory MPs have told Boris to withdraw his comments because they're not right. Rotherham - absolutely chuff all to do with Starmer and the DPP. In fact, one gang were convicted whilst he was head of the DPP. What was suppressed was the 2020 Home Office Report, which was after the major round of prosecutions. Afzal didn't and couldn't have 'pushed aside' Starmer because as DPP, Starmer was the Chief Crown Prosecutor - the head of the whole CPS. So Afzal worked for him. Starmer never 'ran' the Rotherham Grooming Case, that was the case lawyer and Afzals predecessor.
