Avon and Somerset police chief said the jury was shown CCTV footage and deemed the act not criminal and have found them not guilty. fair enough but it makes you wonder what evidence the jurors would have needed to see if actual footage of people toppling a statue isn't deemed criminal.....Robert peel statue stands In my hometown centre it's a wonder that people who genuinely have a grievance against the police haven't thrown it in the river irwell

A really strange decision by the Jury in this case. Personally I don't think the statue should have been there but I don't believe that gives me the right to go and pull it down with no consequence. There is process available to achieve change but mob rule shouldn't succeed, no matter how good the cause.

To be honest I did think they'd be found guilty yes...and then given a slap on the wrist. Given that wasn't the case then maybe you make a valid point, especially if popular public opinion is swaying jury decisions.
Me to on guilty and me to on slap on wrist, but the judicial system is full of idiotic sentencing which is reflected with so called life sentences being nothing of the sort and parole boards full of people easily swayed and conned.....overall needed aye but definitely don't hold your breath
Reminds me of jurors acquitting people of sheep stealing even when the evidence was cut and dried. In that case it was supposed to be because the penalty was huge (death or transportation) and also because the jury had sympathy with someone whose family was close to starvation. I wonder if maybe the jury were just thinking ‘goid riddance’ to the statue. (And no I don’t approve of what they did. But I think a lot do).
