There's a great episode on Love Thy Neighbour where Eddie goes black to prove that he can get served at this bar.
Live in the now Shako, you can't say pansy in these modern snowflake times, it upsets .... the.. erm. well, the pansies
Why do you think that is ? Are people just generally more comfortable and at ease with people of the same colour and then perhaps unwittingly treat minorities differently ?
I would agree with that. I'd also say that the UK is probably up there with the most tolerant of countries regarding race and religion. I reckon if you went to Nigeria, Pakistan, China, Mexico, Brazil as a white person you'd be treated pretty miserably or at least differently than the locals. In a nutshell its just the way of the world and we are probably at the forefront of multiculturalism on a global level. The minorities in this country are treated very well and as equals by a vast majority of the population. I'm not sure that can be said for many countries around the world. One clear sign of this is the fact that minorities are given a larger platform to air their problems than they statistically should and most people don't really have a problem with it. Look at China and see how they deal with moaning minorities or just minorities in general. We're not perfect but it's come on leaps and bounds since I grew up in the 80's. The fact its constantly shoved down our throats in the media is having a negative effect now as its divisive.
Ask people the same question in other societies, this country is more multicultural now than it ever was and plenty of other countries are not, so why do people of colour seem to constantly harp on about rasicm as if they never are themselves. I.e. Claudia webbe who recently stated she wouldn't get a fair go in a white man's court...yet another player with the race card, this country is very tolerant in the main......try China see how you fair
The crux of the issue though is that we're not really talking about foreigners in a foreign land are we. Many people are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation British who just happen to have a different skin colour to the majority of the population. To me this makes your assertion that they are treated well rather condescending as it's their birthright to be treated equally and not something that we bestow upon them and for which they should be grateful.
Read it again. I said they are (for the large part) treated equally. You'll always get some pricks. Unless you can tell me otherwise I would say that we are at the forefront of multiculturalism due to the British Empire. By and large we are very successful and tolerant and the proof of that is that the minority groups in this country are listened to probably more than anywhere else in the world. I find it quite insulting to be labelled a racist country. I've spent time in South Africa (my best mate grew up there) and its disgusting how life is there. The divide between black and white communities even now is a disgrace.
so 2nd 3rd and 4th generation are ok in your book, what about the thousands of illegals, is it condescending as you say, are you happy to pay for 4 star accommodation free food and spending cash, are you happy about illegals going straight to the top of the housing list, have you any idea how many serving soldiers have come home to find foreign nationals squatting in their houses, just this year we are up to over 20,000 and none returned back, and all of those are economic migrants, Watch the new services of intercept major crimes police and see who are committing major crimes, have a look at the prison population and see what is prisoners percentage by ethnicity compared to the population and prepare to be shocked
It's a debate with many differing views and opinions Emu and I was merely adding mine. Whilst much of what you say is correct we're still unfortunately a million miles away from equality for UK citizens of a different skin colour to white.
I'm extremely unhappy and very concerned about illegal immigrants coming to this country Roger. It's a completely different debate in my opinion.
Why don't you do like the Aussies did. Intercept the boats and put all the migrants onto an offshore island of little importance where they can stay until their status is determined, Ireland would do? Seriously though I do find it strange that people trek through some of the richest countries in the world, cross one of the busiest shipping lanes that exist in flimsy boats to claim migrant status in the UK.
