Olly

Now that the transfer window has been and gone, and Olly is still here is anyone else hoping that Olly will get back into the team?

In my opinion he is twice the player that McKenna will ever be at this level, is defensively sound, can create chances and is an aerial threat from corners which we sorely miss.

I have to say I totally agree with this comment.

Our midfield is distinctly lacking and I personally feel Olly would offer more than McKenna.
How many times do we get caught in a counter attack after Rosy had made an attack down the wing and has to sprint back (not that I am criticising him for doing it) because the central midfield doesn't do a job of covering him or by providing a narrow attack up the middle?

Playing narrow would confuse the opposition as most teams now know that Rosy will make those runs and they know exactly where there is space to place the ball on the counter attack as he isn't there to cover.
If I see that, you can bet your bottom dollar that oppostion Managers see it too!

Lets put Olly in there to mix it up a bit more as when we currently fail in the midfield we resort to route one or the right flank with Rosy on the overlap, bang on most games!

but i don't think he is budgeted within the squad and therefore before he could play, then additional bodies would have to go out. Remember, the bean-counters are running the club now

His wage, along with bullards was not part of pearsons seasonal budget. I don't get the hype that Oli generates. For his size he is timid. He has no first touch as second touch is often a tackle. He once scored a good goal vs stoke though. Just another player who many are bigging him up to be some sort of world beater.

Noone is saying he's a world beat kccircle, we just want to see him played, given that we're forking out his wages, and given that he seems to be a better option than McKenna. None of our players are world beaters, and we have plenty that are hit and miss ala Robbie Koren. But the fact is Oli could do a job for us.

He doesn't appear on the team profiles on the club website or have a squad number - suspect we're hoping to ship him out on loan again. I agree he doesn't seem to figure in NPs plans at all.

but because of budgetary restrictions, in order for him to play week in week out, we would probably have to lose McKenna and two others. that is the issue that everyone seems to ignore

Not sure youre right with that Mussie. The deal was that certain players who were not thought to be part of NPs squad were removed from the payroll budget that was granted for this season. Remember, JB was set to form part of the squad before his antics abroad brought a halt to that. there was no mention of them not being able to play

I seem to recall that Olofinjana mentioned in an interview that he had not played in the second half of our last Premiership season due to financial circumstances. That either mean´t that if we played him again we would have to pay Stoke more money or Olofinjana would receive a pay rise. I think he is a player who has improved in supporters eyes by not playing. I recall a lot of critical comments about him when he was playing okay that was in the Prem but Garcia and others received them in the Prem and still do.

He's worth a chance when he gets fit and if we need something new in midfield. It could be in our best interests t play him, he may become an influential member of the team or playing him could put him in the shop window.

would be a threat, as long as he stood 2 yards short of the front post, as it seems to be our favoured routine ;)

Even if he isn't budgeted for the season (which I don't really believe), he's still on the clubs payroll regardless of whether its City of Allams paying him, and so it would be daft of us to not use him.

Reminds me of the Jimmy situation last summer, which the club dealt with really badly, hope we've learnt from our mistakes.

Olly is a good player, at the end of the day, if were paying him, play him, when he played for us, he was decent, maybe not in the game at all times but no-one is, and he played well for Cardiff. Play him or get rid.
