Wigan's a bit of a special case too. It's the biggest borough in the county, but it's predominantly rugby-dominated, unlike anywhere else in Gtr M/cr.
disagree with that. any champions league game i've been too, apart from dead rubbers that aren't even contests ie bursaspor..the atmosphere is usually fantastic. its the league where the atmosphere is dire. i've always found champs league games top quality
Wigan has just over 300k, Bolton 260k... There are 2.6m people living in Greater Manchester, which includes those two areas...you can't tell me the rest are hiding in Rochdale
Not everyone likes football and nor can everyone afford to go. Blackburn's not in Greater Manchester and are sharing fans with Burnley, Blackpool and Preston aswell as the Manchester and Merseyside Clubs in the surrounding areas. In United, City, Everton and Liverpool you have 4 of the biggest clubs in the country.....( I am being VERY kind to city btw ) and then you have some of the oldest clubs in Blackburn and Burnley ( both of which have die hard followings and both of which.....burnley more....have half there support banned from football grounds because there idiots. ) Oh and theres also the fact that many fans of smaller clubs are glory supporters........the worst kind. They pretend to be fans of there 'local' clubs for 'local' people but when things are going bad they suddenly change to another club....leeds, man utd, liverpool, arsenal, chelsea.........before changing back when things get better at the 'local' club. As for the OT atmosphere. Dont worry about it........atmospheres win no games.
Erm, Oldham, Tameside, Stockport, South Trafford, West Salford and Bury. I think you'll find there's at least a million people in the bits you missed. There are only 500,000 in the City of Manchester, and around 20% of that is south of the M60.
Ok, apart from Bury which I'd included with Bolton, I'd mentally envisaged them as part of it given that they are literally the other side of the road I think you'll have to admit that they all follow Utd and City majoritively speaking. Bolton and Wigan are technichally part of Lancashire really/ originally with their own identities regionally speaking, even though the urban sprawl of Manchester City Council now includes them as part of itself.
You have to say though that the support is pretty bad at Wigan... You can tell where the away fans sit as its the only full stand on many occasions! theres nearly more away fans than home fans!
To be fair, if you`ve driven all the way from Cornwall or Surrey you`d be too knackered to sing your heart out for your team.
We`re **** and we know we are but speaking as a life long Rovers fan with a bitter hatred for C**y I can honestly say I`d rather see a kid in town wearing a C**y top than a Man U shirt or any other prem sides shirt for that matter. ****ing Hell, that`s the first serious comment I`ve made since I joined this forum
