still can't work out what he was trying to do as it looked like he thought he was a keeper and was trying to flick it over his own bar
When you are in a mess like we are now, you need a reset. We need to stop conceding stupid goals from set pieces. We need to set up where players are tracked properly, we need to be compact. Unfortunately, I don’t see any change in the way we are playing so don’t know when we will get out of this nightmare
I mean it seemed to me he was appealing for a foul when the ball hit his arm. As our captain, its a poor example to set to the rest of the team. I'm starting to think Szoboszlai should be captain instead.
VVD is one of the best defenders we have ever had but time is catching up with him and he is not the rock he was last season
didn't think he was particularly a rock last season just part of a team that was functioning very well so everyone looks good and the opposite now applies . The aura has now gone and everyone fancies beating him for pace though the big worry for me was he just stopped running for one of the last 2 goals - ****ed iirc which one it was
Virgil is still an incredible defender. He's playing next to a clown, beside a new lad that's got no clue what he's supposed to be doing and has no protection from the midfield.
To me, he realised he's ****ed up and over committed (ball was going beyond him and Konate was ahead of him) and, in the spur of the moment, stuck his hand up in the hope of getting away with a push. Trouble is, his arm movement didn't match a push of the kind. Crazy split second decision that isn't usually associated to VVD
VVD is beyond his peak years but to suggest he's washed up is laughable; he's still far better than most despite a decline.
The whole was good / very good last season so everyone got praised so and due to us controlling games he wasn't exposed like ha is every game this season .
VVD's not at his peak but he's not past his use by date either. I just hope Slot gave him what for over the penalty though because he's gonna be up against similar treatment on set pieces tomorrow
Maybe everyone was good because VVD was good. His introduction into the side when he first arrived totally transformed our team, same as we turned to **** when he was out injured for the season.
when he joined he was one of best in the world ,maybe even the best , and yes his and Ali's arrival transformed us but he wasn't transformational last season and all the players had already been playing with him <ooh err>
Last season Virgil was everything he isn't this time around. He was my vote for Player of the Season - with a nod to Gravenberch. I certainly wouldn't have given it to Mo, who despite his obviously vital goal contribution was frequently inconsistent and at times frustrating. This year Virgil is frustrated and rattled, which is why he's being a whiny little bitch at every perceived injustice and blaming those around him. He needs to step back and dig out the leadership qualities that he's shown in the past. I don't think he's past it just yet. Generally, I don't know what's gone wrong - apart from my perennial dislike of wholesale changes, I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps Jota's death has affected the squad more than we realise, perhaps Slot has screwed up. I'm not sufficiently convinced to put the reason for the decline squarely on the manager's shoulders, but it is his job to sort it out.
