It is a reason not to pay people who choose not to work and then import cheaper labour with the money saved. That's precisely why you can't compare our social programme with Norway's - they're good, rather than politically correct like us.

The EU will fall apart. It might be not be soon, but cracks are already showing and one day, it will. When that day happens, I hope we are already well out of it and standing strong by ourselves as we watch Germany, France etc, flapping about in despair and bankruptcy.
Where've you been? They're cutting benefits left right and centre. They're hurting some who shouldn't be hurt, but only because the poor buggers on the front line are trying to read between the lines on the legislation, and are getting it wrong! Even then, you've got unemployed populations in the wrong place. In cities up north, in the Midlands, in the West Country, in London. But the east and south east is where the cheap seasonal labour is needed. And there's no one there to do the work.
There are definitely issues with the Euro, and that part of the Monetary Union is certainly breaking apart. It's the unified currency, brought in 30, 40, 50 years before it's due time, that's causing a lot of the problems. I can see there being an eventual agreement to drop the Euro within 10 years, maybe less, to reconstitute the national currencies and let them float against each other. Which would in turn mean a return to fiscal independence and national taxation policies. But the EU will just keep growing. As a growing body, it will learn from its mistakes, like hyping the gun with the Euro, and continue to grow. It would be insane to leave it. It would be going against historical precedence and national interest to do so.

I think what you're saying is we can't have people move from "cities up north, in the Midlands, in the West Country, in London" to do seasonal work in the south-east, but we can move people from Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, etc.to do it - right? We ain't moving them mate. They're coming here of their own volition because a) there's free movement in the EU, b) there's no work where they live, c) there's paying working over here, higher than they can earn back home [and still afford to and money back home], and d) no one over here is prepared to work that hard for piss-poor wages in the fields like they are! They can get here for 30quid on Ryanair. You can't get to London on the train from where I live for that mate. And yes, I've got an atlas.
That line keeps getting trotted out, mate. I don't buy it. Are you telling me out of a 65 million population (?), we can't find a couple of thousand people to go to work?
They can't mate. Seriously. Across the counties I mentioned above, during harvest time, it's 90/95% Lithuanians, Poles, Latvians, etc. There's a relatively massive Polish and Lithuanian population around Peterborough. The local hand wash car stops are all Baltic lads around here, working 12 hour shifts for sod all. You find no Brits working there.
Good answer, mate. Do you know the Ryanair fare from London or Leeds by any chance? There's surely more paying work in SE England than there is sitting on your arse, with a spliff in your hand on the dole in some other parts of England, isn't there? I'm not, for one moment, suggesting that we move people - simply hit their bone-idling money till they choose to go, that's all - rather like East Europeans, y'know? Well we are all 'Europeans', aren't we? For now.

They won't be working for sod all, mate. Loads of them are illegals around here, they work for a roof over their heads and tips. That's what I've been informed on good authority, anyway. I'm sure most homeless in the UK would go and work in the fields, for a home to go back to at night. I think the problem is now, we have just accepted and take for granted that these Jonny foreigners will come and do the work for pennies. I doubt if 'our lads' are even being offered the work now. The foreigners seem to have the monopoly on the job opportunities now.
Out..... I find it difficult to believe that our government would subscribe to a "club" whose accounts have not been audited and signed off in years and years....like some have said the most corrupt organisation in the world..worse than FIFA.
