Getting back to the 'club song' - I can remember the Watford Silver Band playing it before the game and at half-time. We were all supposed to sing along - but (well you know the Vic and singing), it was usually ignored while we queued to get our mars bars and cups of very stewed and milky tea, before settling down to the second half and checking the half-time scores hung up against letters on the railings around the greyhound track. Screen, what screen. Great fun when the scores were hung up against the wrong letters......frantically trying to work out if the letters in the programme were wrong or if Newport County were really beating Portsmouth at Fratton Park 6-0 in Division 3?
What did you expect about the Silver Band? By the time that they had marched over the halfway line no one could hear them. The half time scores would not be available until the second half was well underway, and if the game was not very compelling it could be quite fun watching the guys with their piece of paper trying to find the right numbers to put up.
