So bringing in players such as Chester, Koren, Rosenior, Fryatt, even Brady isn't any good?

Steve Walsh found the players for Pearson.
Nigel's job was to weld them into a promotion team ... he couldn't.

Walsh might have found the players, but it was Pearson who decided whether or not they were good enough for him.

When you have a good scout finding good players it doesn't take a genius to rubber stamp the transfer.

Shall we give Phil Parkinson credit for our first PL promotion whilst we're at it?

    Missing the point.

NP got rid of the deadwood and a lot of the big wage players following our relegation from the Prem. If he hadn't done it, we would not be here now.

Though I do agree that Pearson himself would not have got us up. But what he did do when he arrived such as beginning to create a new team capable of one day regaining promotion should not be ignored.

    Anyways, that's me off. Later.

Yes and he did get some credit for bringing some of those players in.

Blockhead brought in players that were a key part of our promotion and are still key parts of our squad now, some credit has to go to him for that.

And Mike, I'm not sure if it matters, but I always rated Brady very highly since the first time I saw him play. When it was rumoured that he was available for 300k I was calling for us to snap Manchester United Football Club's hand off for him, and was utterly bemused when a good proportion of posters didn't even want him for that price!

Off topic but I wonder if, in the long term, we may actually end up better off for that. I'd imagine with paying £2.5m for him we'll have dodged MUFC's handsome sell on clause they usually insist on for their youngsters, so if he carries on the way he has done since his return, we might actually end up more in profit when he moves on.

Pearson's job was to stop the slide after our PL relegation and he did that. We had a great away record, had some famous results and he brought some great players in. The brand of football got better as time went on and it was never as negative as people on here have started making out it was since he left. When he was here Corry Evans was one of our best midfielders. By the time Bruce got here Evans was a discardable player who we'd outgrown. You can't compare the two managers. SB took over a team on the up, Pearson took over a sinking ship and turned it around.

Unfortunately we have a lot of muppet fans who take the simpleton view that the current manager (whoever he is) is the best we've ever had and that all previous ones were rubbish.

    It beggars belief.

    Am I missing something here?

Did not Pearson walk out on us when our team were in a great position to gain promotion?

To me, Pearson broke his contract. Contracts mean very little nowadays but it should be a matter of honour to stay in a job until it is done; that's why the phrase "honouring your contract" has been coined, and him walking out on us at that particular time was about as far from honourable as you can get. We've moved on now and we have a better manager who knew how to get us over the line and even if we are relegated this season Steve Bruce is a far superior manager, whether he is a far superior man, only time will tell.

I don't hate Pearson, I actually feel pity for him because he obviously has a lot of issues dealing with people. But him falling flat on his smug, twattish face will always bring a wry smile to mine.
