Can't believe people still want to talk about this. Each to their own I suppose. I'd rather look forward to the football.

Pacheco used the term non-offensively, no problem!

Suarez used the term non-offensively, problem!

The problem being that Suarez was in a heated discussion with Evra, so therefore he must have been being racist. However, it is clear that the term is generally used by South Americans with no racial connotations. Messi has used it, Hernandez has used it, lots of examples of South Americans using it have been provided...so, if all these people use it why was Suarez' use of it deemed racist?

It is apparently similar to the term 'mate' here as far as I can see, so was it not a case of Suarez referring to Evra as 'mate', without actually trying to racially insult him? Obviously not, three Englishmen decided he was being racially abusive, despite the fact that the term is clearly used by South Americans in a non-offensive manner in all sorts of situations!

Example: Person 1: You are a prick! Person 2: Yeah ok mate. Person 1: No, you are a prick! Person 2: Yeah ok mate! <ok>

  4. Neither Pacheco or Glen Johnson are in Britain so what's that matter...?

Edit: since read the remaining posts and realised this as already been pointed out, my bad <doh>

A couple of points... According to the FA statement of Suarez's punishment, he had called Evra "******" and "coon" about 20 times in the match. So the alleged truth that he only really used "Negrito" once is a mute issue, as the FA never even punished Luis for that, Luis was punished for Evra's fantastical lies, and nothing that actually occurred in reality.

    Besides, unless Glen complains....

It still bugs me that no-one moans about how all Inniesta's team-mates don't get hauled over the coals of hell for calling him glow-worm. Not only is is a name based on colour, since he is pale for a Spaniard, but also, he is pale because of a skin pigment disorder! So they are mocking him on colour and disability!!!! Why are the Daily Mail not all over this!!!???

Piss off manc scum! And take your copies of the Daily Mail with you!

We are so paranoid about race, that we go to extreme lengths to NOT use colour as a descriptor. You would never point our a black guy by saying "See that black guy over there", so you go on a big game of Taboo..."Do you see that guy over there, he is next to the woman with the red top, and he has a gold chain around his neck..."

We have taken it to a totally stupid level of PC to avoid referring to a person by their skin colour, which is just as good a descriptor as what someone is wearing. It is the same level of stupidity as not calling someone he or she, to avoid claims of sexism.

Evra is Negrito, he is little and black. That is just a fact of life, there is nothing racist in it. If I wanted to be racist to Evra, I'd call him a short arsed Frog bigot.

Saw a download of that Red Tails last night, a film about the Tunguskee fliiers, black American Mustang pilots in WWII. Based upon a true story, it retells how this squadron, against all sorts of racist oppostion, actually went on to become renowned as the one escort squadron that actually stuck with the bomber formations they were there to defend and had one of the lowest loss of bomber ratios (if not the highest) of anyone doing that job in Europ. That much is historical fact.

Anyway, there's a scene were the fighter pilots meet the white bomber crews and get tanked with them. During the ensuing conversation, one of the bomber pilots says "What do you people prefer to be called? Is it coloured?". "hell no!" they reply, "We're negroes! You people go red when embarassed, turn white with fright, and go yellow when scared. And you call US coloured?"

Negro is in the dictionary as a descriptive noun, and an adjective too. Depending on the context, it's no more pejorative than calling someone ginger or short.

First off Suarez said Negro not Negrito. He also did it while he was all up in Evras face and looking to cause conflict. Hence why he was charged. The context here made it racist.

This young lad is an idiot for choosing to do this after last season and wont do himself or Liverpool any good but hes said it without any malice and to a team mate. A totally different thing to Suarez.

The term Negro is offensive, regardless of where you come from, just like the word n*gger.

Also I dont get how calling someone a little black man isnt deemed offensive. I suspect and am probably right that in latin nations black people havent managed to gain the rights and equality they have in the western world.

Negrito means little black man, it doesnt mean buddy or pal....the word for that is amigo. Negro means black man so again....not mate at all.

The point people have been trying to point out to some Liverpool fans. The context. Suarez was all up in evras face, almost goading him and being a ****. The context here is not a positive or friendly one at all.

Thanks for clearing it up though, you didnt intend to but you did. Well done you.

Calling someone black is fine, calling someone black in anger isnt. Calling a mate a **** is fine, calling a stranger a **** isnt.

In Scotland the word ***got describes a type of meat ball in gravy. Say it bin scotland in the right context and you will have no issue. Call someone a ***got in the street or at work and bad things are likely to happen.

Many words have various meanings depending on the context and arena they were used in.

This whole question is becoming very very boring! But, just to clarify one point. It was EVRA who was is Suarez's face - not the other way round. So let's not try and re-write history.
