    Was just watching highlights of the England 1-4 Germany game from 4 years ago and some of Lawrenson's commentary is hilarious.

    In one match he managed to suggest that Neuer was a suspect goalkeeper, that England should show Germany what the premier league is 'all about and see if they can cope' and that 'whole stadium' could see the ball was over the line (even though he could only make that conclusion after watching the slow motion replay).

    His hype is exactly why we're tosh. Celebrating pace and energy rather than calculated, good play using players with good technical ability.

    We get stuck with Gerrard spraying 90 yard passes into row z and Rooney slide tackling someone from behind and getting a yellow.

    10 of that German first team play in Germany... that mass change in early 2000s for them has paid off.

    i agree seeing gerrard never misses a target... oh and the germans are 90% pace and power themselves... technicains? only ozil and he was muck... shurrle? <laugh>

    The phrase technical ability is starting to annoy me. What exactly does it mean? Surely these players know how to control a ball, pass it, tackle & shoot etc. Surely "technical ability" is just a way of calling players stupid for picking the wrong options? Mentality if you like as it may be a result of panicking or lack of confidence
