Baffling decisions by the genius there.
If he didn't trust Cillesen the first time, why leave him to face the pens this time?
    And Ron Vlaar first up?
    Just why?

On a side note, Tyldesley's idiot pronunciation of Rojo was getting on my tits as well.

Martin O'Neill apparently didn't rate Mascherano before tonight...

    Shows why he's a shocking manager <doh>

As usual with these comps you get the paradox of as the better teams progress we see worse football on all levels....fear sets in and everyone plays non football....except Brazil, fair play they refused to play non football and stood stock still......

TBF Man Utd have far more divers than Netherlands who rely mainly on Robben

  12. Not sure it's fear, maybe better opposition that stifle teams? The big games often fail to live up to expectation because the quality is so high and the errors are less frequent

Van Gaal's plan is to turn all the games Man Utd lost at Old Trafford into 0-0 draws #tacticalgenius

Any good books about for when United play Chelsea? They may as well dig trenches 30 yards from their goal lines and let the goalies kick it to each other.

I know when it gets to that stage its all about winning, but it must be pretty frustrating for the players looking back and knowing they didn't even give it a go, its better to go out knowing you did everything to win rather trying not to lose. I guess after the bloodbath yesterday the teams we're focused on not sucuming to the same fate.

Heard that before and yes, you would expect tighter games with more evenly matched teams, particularly defence but I've like all of us watched a few of these and its rarely a cancel out of skill. It's a "step back because I don't want to be the guy remembered as making a mistake".

Other than 3-4 players tonight....quality high?? I saw a lot of people making the odd effort but with no risk (Mascherano was a great exception)? And that's not just tonight. (First SF is an exception or example of fear on crack )

I think the cancel each other out is a cop out. Understandable of course but I still maintain the better football is played in the earlier stages of these comps. after that it becomes a don't lose and hope.
