He won't be the main defensive signing <ok>

We need a leader, experienced player in our defence at some level - would you rather spend £12m on Williams or get Kolo on a free, and then spend another £12m on a top defensive target?

In addition, our scouts (from Man City) probably have good knowledge of what Toure is like <ok>

  5. Excellent call although aren't scouts meant to watch opposition players etc?

If on a free and low or pay as you play wages and as long as he's being bought as expeirenced cover, then yes!
    Else NO!

Alex k looked light weight we've seen him develop elsewhere... why on earth beat ourselves up on this. sterling was always our no 1 player for this slot.... same for ince and silva to boot, are they top 4... NO. sterling and ibe are our youth path and we bought coutinho in. I'm quite happy how its worked out.

AK is doing fantastic and i would more hope that we put a buy back clause in but we know we didn't

Think this could be a shrewd move, with Carra no longer on the pitch we need some experience, leadership and presence, especially since the other defenders we'll be getting in will presumably be pretty young. Only sign him at a good price and providing he's fit though!

He's out of contract so what's his alternative? No one is going to offer him City wages. I fail to see this as anything but good. a 2 year contract on 60k a year works for both parties. He's 32, he can't ask for much more when his current club won't renew his contract.

There's probably some kind of substance he can take to keep himself playing longer so he could be a good signing. <whistle>

He's better than Turtle & he's on a free, albeit with big wage demands no doubt, but Carra La was on big money.

You could do far worse than him.

...and also far better. Given his recent performance history, I'd rather not, thanks.

Shouldn't we just pick over the corpses of the recently departed instead - Emerson Boyce, Chris Samba anyone?

I'd rather we signed my nan (god rest her soul) than Boyce or Samba. At least Toure can do it when fit....on a free it's well worth a go.

boyce is a god awful defender. worst in the league IMO.

Toure is shot through, end of stroy. bringing trash like that about the place is a retrograde step cos frankly the lad WAS ok but not a leader type at either arsenal nor city and to me he's fat, rich and won't be that motivated for us...

NOR, NOR MIGHT I ADD is he a big tall centre half so his aged legs are no good to us. you need to be tall and powerful to be slow in this league.

Boyce is not a great defender, but he is a leader, always shouting about and looking to organise. His own ability might not be up to the job, but his organisation is what I was looking at. As for Samba, thought he might pair well with Agger, big, strong in the air and the challenge. Perhaps lacks mobility and distribution not the best.

But I think MITO has it regards Toure - he wasn't a leader anywhere else, so why here, and he's shot through anyway. 5 years ago perhaps a shout, but when he left Arsenal he was already on the way down...

LIVERPOOL FC are closing in on a deal to bolster their defence with a move for Manchester City centre-back Kolo Toure.

    Quite a few sources.

    hmmmmmm

    Also:

Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori, 20, and Schalke's 21-year-old centre-back Kyriako Papadopoulos are also being monitored by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Just because Toure is on £100K at City doesnt mean he will insist on it.

This could be a good move. Experienced, played in 2 major PL sides. Adds strength.

He is 32. By the time he is 34 Kelly will be 24 and Wisdom 22, so this should allow them to develop and fill the gap until they are ready.

Could be a smart move. Especially if we also sign Alderweireld, Kyrgiakos, De Vrij or similar.

Miles better than Williams for £12.

I agree. Toure isn't amazing however he is a cheap option to help provide more cover for our defence. It allows us to spend big on a first choice CB.

Alternatively, we can spend approx £10m each on two CB's and waste our budget?
