You know what... I didn't mind this part of the deal at the time but did dalle valle. I thought the kid was lovely technically but like quite a few others at the time was a bit lightweight and not really up to the game. He's developed physically no end since hasn't he?

I think had he not moved he'd not have done so.

I agree hodgson getting konchesky was idiotic but letting this kid go with no buy back clause??? thats gross negligence.

    Hello gents

It appears we are signing Kolo Toure when he returns from his holidays in America.

Its rife over twitter, and after the Fergie news coming true, I trust the sources.

Plus the Telegraph are supposed to be putting a spread on it tomorrow.

I think he is the sort of defender we need - if he was 5 years younger!

    He's 32.

As a squad player he could be very useful I supppose.

No news on the fee, guessing its a free!

    What is everyone's opinion?

He is on £100K a week at City, unless he is taking a massive pay cut I doubt very much this will happen because Liverpool will not pay those wages.

It sounds like its going through mate.

We can afford 100k, but I hope we wouldnt give him more than half that.

Not that you can't afford it but for an injury prone 32 year old it would be ridiculous, if he does take a big pay **** then it would be good business, I personally would still have him back at Arsenal.

    Would you? That is interesting.

My opinion of him was that he was past his best and I still think that deep down.

As a free though its low risk.

If the wages aren't crazy I'd be happy with him as a squad player especially if he's on a free. The fact is Carra was on a decent whack so if we got Toure in on less then I can see the appeal. Decent player.

Yes I would, we only have 3 CBs at Arsenal, he knows the club inside out and would be a massive improvement on Djourou & Squillaci who are both leaving. But as you mentioned already, he'd want a 50% pay cut in his wages to make it happen.

Was rubbish against us at Anfield earlier in the season.

He does have good experience plus we'll need 2 or 3 centre backs in the summer so I suppose a free transfer defender with trophy & title winning experience. He was part of the invincibles in the league & the Arsenal team with a superb defence that got to the champions league final.

If he isn't physically finished like he's looked in a couple of games this season then he could be a shrewd signing. A big risk but probably worth taking for a player with over 400 club games for teams in England & 100+ international caps.

A appearance/performance contract only though, not just a big fat contract a la Joe Cole.

Agreed <ok> don't break the ****ing bank for him for gods sake but get him in on a good deal (for us) and he's a decent addition.

Can't imagine our current owners and manager making a mistake like that.
Tbh, if this is true I'm surprised because it seems to go against their proclaimed youth policy completely.

Toure is still a good player. City have too many Cb's for him to have any chance there. He would get plenty of game time considering your current defenders.

Get him on a free and decent wages and he's a good back up option with a wealth of experience and winning mentality. In addition, signing him on a free would enable us to spend more on the other CB who will be the first team option - Papadopolous is the man we want and I hope we get him - seriously talented player who can also play as DM so that provides more competition for Lucas as well.

  20. I don't like this. Toure WAS a good player back in his Arsenal days and maybe his first season at Man City but he has been a bit part player for so long and he isn't getting any younger. If it is a free transfer and he is either willing to take a massive pay cut (under £60pw which I still think it too much) or Man City are going to subsidies his wages then okay, he will add a old head to the squad that will be able to hopefully guide our youngsters. I just hope this isn't the main signing, we should be looking to bring in a young strong and promising CB such as a Papadopolous or Dede (I know), etc or a Alderweireld.

Still, rather Toure than Williams <diva>
