Tony Barrett's webchat is over for those who missed it he said Rodgers is interested in both Eriksen and Ben Arfa.

Not sure I rate Ben Arfa and I really haven't seen anything of Eriksen.

Eriksen is good, HBA is injury prone but when he is on he is most certainly on. Reminds me/ similar to Taarabt but not sure if that is all good or all bad.

Still think we need more defenders and steel in the middle, along with one more attacker.

barrett has that inside line or had... here is my honest opinion. Christian erikkson is one of only a very small handful of really top drawer young attack minded midfielders GLOBALLY. He is that good. Ben arfa is downing with a different name and is so one footed its a joke. I at this point see no reason to swap downing for him in a costly and not really beneficial swap.

a good example is how english press wet themselves over whilshire while this guy erikkson is much much better.

If we could get Eriksson then i could see us play a real 4-3-3 with gerrard moving to a more playmaker role whcih should extend his playing days.

i would also eally agree a 6'4" CB is a must, get me sami hyppia please. a magnet for crosses please.

  9. Don't want ABH, will be far too expensive for what we'd get in return <ok>

Eriksen would be great and would make the front four positions interesting <ok>

I suspect it would be Carroll + at most £5m for HBA, if NFC wouldnt go for it we would look elsewhere, I suspect LFC have spoke to HBAs agent already ( only illegal to talk to player ) and they may hope player may force move, who still hasnt signed new deal, and I suspect wont sign a new deal b4 the summer at least

Geordies think HBA is a £20m + player and think sun shines out his backside, they think hes a top player, but he is injury prone, but so were Agger and Stevie b4 BR came on board

Dont want ABH <laugh> Actual Bodily Harm.............., I can see what your saying but beating pour Hatem up is a bit OTT <laugh>

Eriksen is a good player with so much potential, but he's apparently not been at his best over the past year. I peeked into some Ajax forums, and surprisingly most of them seem to be more than happy to get rid of him. Mind you, these guys have been watching him regularly and would be in a better position to judge.

It could probably that he's bored of the league and needs a change. He was outstanding in the CL. Completely Bossed City in both legs, and brilliant against Dortmund and Madrid aswell. If he could do well against top sides, maybe it's just a matter of a better challenge, Dutch league isn't all that competitive in that sense.

He'd be a great signing but we may need to sell Shelvey and maybe loan Suso or Tex.

I like the Sakho rumors. We could use a beast like him in the back.

We did not need him. His best position is number 10 and we have Suarez to play there now so I think Holtby would have been a waste of money for us so I am happy we did'nt sign him.

christian erikkson is like a guy who just has it too easy and only shines when a real team turns up. therefore i think if he is availabel and no other club is looking i'd break their arm off snatching him.

and yes suso needs a loan anyway to build epxerience.

Tony Barrett on The Times - Rodgers happy with Liverpool’s summer recruitment plans

Brendan Rodgers believes the recent overhaul of Liverpool’s scouting operation will ensure that he is able to recruit from an extensive pool of talent even if proposed moves for his key targets this summer, including Ashley Williams and Hatem Ben Arfa, are unsuccessful.

The Liverpool manager has identified Williams as his favoured long-term replacement for Jamie Carragher who is due to retire at the end of this season. But with Arsenal among several clubs also interested in the Swansea City centre back there is likely to be competition for the Welshman’s signature.

Ben Arfa is another major target for Rodgers and the possibility remains that Liverpool will attempt to negotiate a swap deal for the France international should Newcastle United revive their interest in Andy Carroll, as expected, at the end of this season.

Though Rodgers is unwilling to name publicly the players he intends to pursue, he readily admits to being in the process of formulating a shortlist, albeit one that can be adapted in the event of Liverpool being unable to deliver his “ideal” targets.

The club are hoping to avoid a repeat of the failings of last summer when a move to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan from Chelsea collapsed and Rodgers was left with no alternatives despite the need for attacking reinforcements.

“Of course you have an ideal target, but we are getting to a situation now where, for me, you have to have three players [in mind] and if one doesn’t come off you have to be comfortable with the other two,” Rodgers said. “If you get one of those you are happy.

“There is a lot of terrific work going on behind the scenes with the scouting department getting those lists together. We never had that in the summer and what I had to go with was what I knew. But there were some key positions we needed support in and what I didn’t want to do was to waste the club’s money.

“I like to be extensive and know what we are bringing in, but also we did not have the time and that was the big issue. We are much better placed now. There is great collaboration that goes on between all the departments. January was a productive window for us and hopefully if we do the similar in the summer then it’s going to be a real good place for us.”

Among those currently being monitored by Liverpool’s scouting department are Lazar Markovic, the 19-year-old Partizan Belgrade forward, Christian Eriksen, of Ajax, and Bruno Martins and Stefan de Vrij, the Feyenoord pair.

Rodgers accepts that further rebuilding is necessary, although he ruled out the possibility of overhauling his squad partly due to his belief that Liverpool’s younger players can continue their development.

Raheem Sterling has been taken out of the first-team picture recently, although the teenager was an unused substitute for the win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and he was given a week off prior to that fixture to recharge his batteries.

Rodgers is planning to ease the 18-year-old back into his team and expects him to play a significant role again next season, although he is considering allowing Suso to go out on loan.

“I have had a real good year with the young players to assess where they are at with their development. If the young players are good enough they will be involved in the squad.

“There is no doubt there is a natural rebuilding that will come with the likes of Carragher going. I am happy with the squad if I can then put another three or four quality players to it. It is quality we are after, not quantity. We see Coutinho and Sturridge’s quality in January, if we bring in another three or four players of that quality then we have got a strong squad.”

So our brand spanking new 'extensive' recruiting and scouting team have managed to come up with, Ben Arfa, Ashley Williams, "Lazar Markovic, the 19-year-old Partizan Belgrade forward, Christian Eriksen, of Ajax, and Bruno Martins and Stefan de Vrij"?! Christ, I could have given you those names from playing football manager.

    Useless scouts.
