ok so the term ever when we are a club who sued to have a great set up in the past is a bit too strong.

football has changed and we need a bigger squad than ever before so in terms of numbers yes thats a lot of attackers... but the quality is not so sure.

To me we need to understand what rodgers wants to go do with this next.

Day one his 4-3-3 was really two very wide men ala swansea. it dodn't work for him for a few reasons but what i see is far more inside/middle type players and far fewer wingers. when he had nobody he still would not use assaidi....

I would hope both assaidi and downing do go but there are no sure things there.

Anyway... the best sentiment here is buying the two top players to improve the NOW rather than many lesser lights in the hope of years ahead. Papadopolous in my view is too risky with the knee injury but he's young and fits all the other boxes, and Henry Ryan is similar. That's real improvement where as punting on a player is not... thats just my view on it. If the guy works great but if we sacrifice something that is needed as we made a couple of hopeful buys then we are foolish indeed.

  3. Simply because there are more players in the list, yes. However, we do not know if the incoming players (Astu, Aspas, Henri Ryan, Alberto) will be better than the outgoing players (Downing, Assaidi, Suarez). All assumptions of course

If Suarez was to stay and we signed those players than it is without doubt an improvement. If Luis goes, I'm not convinced and I think we need to sign another forward.

Edit: I'd put Alberto, Aspas and Astu in the same bracket as Assaidi. They are all a level above Downing mind <laugh>

    Could certainly work very well.

Coutinho - Luis Alberto - Suso
    Henri - Henderson
    Borini - Aspas
    Sturridge - Suarez
    Atsu - Sterling - Downing

Add a Benteke or Lamela type and really exciting.

Just the quality these players have alone, how can that not excite you?

  6. I know nothing about Aspas, Alberto, Henri Ryan and Astu <ok>

Maybe it is a good thing.

We all knew plenty about Downing, Carroll, Adam and Konchesky.

We only scouted players who the club could reach by bus and got average talent. I'd like to think we are putting more effort and time in to our scouting now by covering the globe better.

Luis Alberto is one I am a little bit cautious about. I dont know much about the rest but at least they have various decent clubs after them and a lot of excitement attached to their names.

the eriksen stuff doesn't go away. this is a vacuum type story. there is nothing going on so the media ask questions all over and build on each other's rubbish. it seems "someone" denied interest at dortmund so the english picked up on it....anything with LFC in the title has to have spurs added to it..

I said nearly a month ago is it? 8mil for eriksen. If spurs get him for that they can sell bale and then buy a whole team and with CE in their team they will be top 4.

I hope we buy eriksen, "mickeylicky" or whatever his name is, have coutinho, and sturridge to go with and just play a non winger game plan based on what we say late on last year.

Spurs have appointed Franco Baldini as their Technical Director - very good signing IMO because he has a big reputation around Europe and can attract some top players.

If we some how got Eriksen could you imagine the mid/attack looking like this?!

    -------------Sturridge-----------------
    -------------------------Suarez--------
    Mkhitaryan------Eriksen---------Cou
    --------------Gerrard--Lucas---------

With Aspas, Borini, Atsu, Hendo, Alberto, Sterling all for depth

I get the feeling that Mkhitaryan is the natural successor to Gerrard as the CM.

The top 4 sounds good on paper but the problem we have is that their best position is central, even though they have the capability of playing out on the wing - Coutinho, Eriksen, Mkhi.

    Being realistic here...

Replace Suarez with Sturridge, don't think we'll get Eriksen, so, from current squad stick Hendo there.

With that 11 would still give us a bench of:

Jones, Toure, Kelly, Aspas, Alberto, Sterling, Atsu, Others...

Also assuming Ass, Downing, Shelvey are sold and Suso, Wisdom loaned out.

With the Suarez money we might be able to go get Eriksen.

On a side note, people keep putting Suarez in their teams?!?

I genuinely think he will stay another year then leave. But if he does he won't leave for cheap at all, and with £50million our team will look even better

Some people now saying that a work permit for this Mkhitaryan bloke could be complicated because Armenia are not ranked in the top 70.
