aspas could be a luis garcia.... but i go think buying players from relegated sides is an awful policy. pennent, crouch and a few others show this.

I think aspas won't be as good as say dirk kuyt was for us. Thats kind of where i'm pitching the guy as... wrok horse

Hands up who saw Coutinho before he signed? Not gonna write him off before he's even joined, nor am I going to big him up. But from things I've heard he sounds like a decent player, you never know - he might surprise a few people. Welcome Aspas <diva>

He seems like a Tevez-hardworking type, but without the flair. To be fair, he also bagged a fair few goals in a terrible team so he's either really lucky (I'll take that) or in the right place at the right time as a forward player. I think he'll be effective with players like Coutinho or Suarez (maybe) around him.

Mkitaryan (I think that's right...) is exciting me though if we can pull that deal through. Even in a poor league, he shows real quality. Great movement and forward runs from midfield, unselfish, nice touch...think he'd be brilliant. Unfortunately, he plays in the position where Coutinho started to shine so would be interesting to see who'd be moved - I think Coutinho would still be great from the left though.

Pipe dream, but if somehow Suarez stayed for one more season before moving (meh, the guy's absolutely class, I'd keep him), him, Mkitaryan and Coutinho behind Sturridge could be devastating.

  12. I didn't want Sturridge either but my reasoning still remains.

I should add that I didn't want Allen or Borini either. Didn't know Assaidi but had no complaints considering the price. The only one I was keen for us to sign was Sahin.

Difference between Coutinho and Aspas is that Coutinho is only 20 yet has more exposure to the pressure and expectations of not only playing for a big club in Inter and Liverpool but also a whole country (was labelled as the next big thing in Brazil at the same time Neymar was coming through). Therefore, I would say Coutinho was far less of a risk than Aspas despite the latter being older and more experienced in terms of games played.

I agree with MITO - I'm a bit weary of Aspas purely because he's only played for Celta who were relegation candidates so does he have the mentality to hack it at a big club? I'm not sure.

I had the same concerns with players like Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Adam and it would be unfair not to apply the same logic to Aspas just because he's Spanish therefore instantly better(!)

I do think he will be a decent player of the squad and I think he will be an upgrade on Downing.

However, we still need to bring in REAL quality - Papa and Henrikh are the ones we NEED more as they have the big club experience, Champions League experience and most importantly, they have the ability.

True but Celta was/is his boyhood club so you can understand to an extent. Adam, Downing etc are completely different players, Aspas is a box of tricks and a work horse. When I heard that we were signing him I watched his last few games, and I'll tell you this, Celta's midfield is really bad, I'm amazed he even scored 12. But you can see when he picks the ball up his first instinct is going forward and taking on a player, that in my opinion is why he's compared to Suarez. He also has that edge to him that Suarez has, time will tell whether that is a good thing.

He turns 26 this Summer, which is a good age for a striker so I'm not to bothered about that. I don't think Michu was to young last season but he really embraced the premiership, I'm hoping Aspas will do the same. Way to early to judge as I think he's better compared to Borini than Downing. Scored some goals abroad, problem is how long will he take to adapt to the pace and physicality of the EPL.

2 signings made (in principal) before the window has even started. Very happy with that!

aspas could be light weight for the prem, he could be better than downing... he could be a lot of things. it seems to me he's played monkey business with agents o nthis so i am i think looking at someone rodgers or someone REALLY wants. The difference with michu is he's a big lump too. this guy is lighter than mata... he's got to have the pace and technical ability to play. we'll see.

Despicable isn't it? This reminds me of that time we bought that Coutinho player that no one really knew about. I'd rather spend more money on another Allen that hasn't really justified the price tag than paying less than £10m on a player who got the most goals/assists in La Liga other than Ronaldo and Messi. Fo a struggling club at that. <doh>

Liverpool FC are being linked with a loan move for Brazilian forward Lucas Piazon.

The 19-year-old signed for Chelsea from Sao Paulo in 2011 but has made just one Premier League appearance for the Stamford Bridge side, missing a penalty against Aston Villa in his team's 8-0 win.

He was on loan at Malaga in the second half of last season and Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his past alliance with Jose Mourinho will enable him to do business.

never seen him play, any good?

Countinho was a much bigger name in comparison. Big prospect in Brazil, playing for a major club like Inter, with experience in many leagues and much much younger than Aspas. So yes, it is completely different.

Aspas is a replacement to Downing. Who in turn should be a sub not a starter. I can't complain. I hope we sell the sack of **** Downing
