  1. Why we looking at buying players then  <whistle> :bandit:

I'm with you on Allen, I don't know where he fits in. I think Shelvey will move on, probably on loan but maybe permanent.

ATM all I see Allen as is a player who you sub on for a forward when your two or three up, have 10 minutes left and want to take it easy, pass the ball around and protect your lead.

I can see the benefit of having some one who can pass the ball around quickly and accurately and link things together in the opposition half, when the front three are making good runs. But Coutinho. That is all I need to say. 'But Coutinho'. In comparison Alln just doesnt feel right in that area of the pitch.

Strootman plays that deep playmaker role Gerrard has taken this year.

    He's quality, experienced too.

    Atsu.
    Papadopolous
    Ilori
    Zouma
    Begovic
    Eriksen
    Alderweirld
Mkhtyran (plays for Shaktar - no idea how to spell it. it has a lack of vowels).
    Aspas.

Those lot are definitely on the shortlist but there are apparently is 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice for each individual position were looking to strengthen so theres going to be a lot of links this Summer. we are spending most of our time looking in France, Holland and Germany, although BR still seems to prefer staying at home, but its not just up to him luckily.

Re. Strootman, we are interested but I think Man Utd are the front runners though.

Iago Aspas - can't say I know too much about him apart from the fact that Laudrup wants to sign him for Swansea. He looks like a tidy finisher but that is only going by YouTube compilations.

What about Vermalen not getting a game at Arsenal thought he was good last year. According to BBC Gossip Arsenal would listen to bids of £5m

Raphael Honigstein (Guardian's German Football Correspondant) has said that Papa to LFC is very close. The player wants to come and Schalke are happy to sell as they have now bought 2 replacements.

  10. Too similar to Agger and would be expensive, both in fee and wages. Plus, why would he leave Arsenal who are in the CL every year to join us? He still gets plenty of game time too.

And he's a bit injury prone as well? But I suppose you covered that when you said 'similar to Agger' ....

    You're so witty Gez :)

Exactly my thought. The similarities even stretch as far as the injury record.

    -

Brendan Rodgers: 'I only want winners for Liverpool FC this summer'.

    From the Echo Facebook.

If we sign Toure, Papa, Strootman and Eriksson it suggests Rodgers is looking at strengthening and reinforcing the spine of the team.

  13. Ah, but you're forgetting the current record for getting injury prone players on the pitch and us not needing to have players in training <whistle>

Haha I'm guessing you're not too keen on him ... <whistle>

    #2076
  17. Wouldn't have minded him five years ago but not so keen now. However, if he is only going to be a squad player on a responsible wage then I won't complain so long as we sign a top quality CB for the first team.

The reason I am moaning is because I believe every player the club buys should be with the aim of improving the first team, the squad would then take care of it self.

I understand what you mean by your last comment - I'm an advocate of purely buying top players which should lead to an evolving team.

Assuming Papa signs, he will be the first choice CB. Despite him playing with a great level of maturity and experience, he is still 21. The other defenders in Kelly, Wisdom etc are all young and they need an experienced player to look up to. Toure can be the guy who guides them without stagnating their progress, and he can also be the reliable defender who we can call upon in the lesser games or to play alongside a young defender.

  19. That is what I meant but I didn't want to name names. Not sure Toure is the best role model mind; jumped ship for money (he was one of the first to join Man City after the money men arrived so were very unlikely to win anything at that time) and has been banned for use of a banned substance. He has since been happy to sit on Man City's bench seeing out his lucrative contract.

Rodgers see's experience as very important in his squad. He wants players who have been there, done that. But the owners only allow him to pay a fee for youth, so he has to look at deals like the Toure one.

I am in favour of signing Toure though.
