Good point. Enrique does get slight niggles from time to time, and I hate it when we have to shift Johnson, Downing or even Agger to LB. Having Cissokho come in should (in theory) mean we don't need to move others players from their best positions to accommodate any injuries.
Too old, he's like 29. Plus his price tag is crazy, especially for someone so old and unproven in the PL.
Agree about the price tag, there's just next to no options out there in terms of top strikers willing to join us.
I do like Soldado - think he's a classy player but he's getting on a bit and that transfer fee is too high for my liking. Graham Hunter said that we bid £18m for him and I think that would have been acceptable. I believe Valencia want £26m for him. I rather use that money and buy the next best thing (like we did with Suarez and Torres). Luis Muriel and Erik Lamela would be great shouts.
I know, reports yesterday were that Gameiro has agreed to go to Sevilla for €8.5m, should really have looked into him tbh, especially for that price.
here we go. 40mil apparently rejected. match is on at 11... press conferences to come. Ayre is there so what will they say?
Agree about Soldado especially given the price. What I really hope doesn't happen is that we lose Suarez late in the window and then panic buy (again). Could we cope until Jan without him and without a replacement? Tough and we'd be relying on Sturridge staying fit The big clubs have brought in a lot of players this window. That means come Jan there will be players not getting games who are gagging for first team games. Too risky to try and hold out until Jan if we did lose Suarez now?
I don't think the majority of your fanbase would accept not seeing a replacement land this window, it'd leave the Yanks & Rodgers open to all sorts of abuse & accusation. I'd be amazed if you weren't already lining up a replacement, so that when Madrid finally show their hand, you can move quickly.
I suspect that this is already happening. But as we have already seen earlier on, we have targets but completing the deal is proving to be trickier than expected (e.g. Mkhitryan, Papa, Ilori).
hey, i wonder... if suarez doesn't play say 30 mins does it mean anything... not to me but will the press jump on it. I'd start him here and make him jog 45...
Undoubtedly but most of us remember rushing into the Mandy deal too quickly. As Jimmy says lining up replacements is one thing, bringing them in at the right price is another thing altogether. We did ok without LS last season when he didn't play. Granted a lot of teams we played had little to play for but then how much did we have to play for either? Obviously not suggesting it'd be ideal (far from it) but could we cope until Jan with having no Europe and only the league/league cup to play? Possibly.
Do people think that's Arsenal's lot? Got to be honest I am astonished that they were prepared to pay £40m - but will they keep going?
