Having read all the comments, I have to say I'm in the same boat as Lucaaas and Saint. Think Ayre and BR knew Reina was going to leave this summer, so they got a very apt replacement. Of course they were going to claim Pepe was staying in order to retain his value. They say the same about Suarez to keep the price up, and maybe even genuinely think we might keep him. We don't know all the facts so pointless giving it out to the club, although I understand it from our many **** ups in the past.
That's not what I said, is it? Spending £9m on a goalkeeper now might be the board saying well Mignolet only has 2 years left on his contract and Arsenal are sniffing about him so he'll either be unavailable for us next summer or he'll be much more expensive as Sunderland will get him to sign a new contract with a verbal agreement that they'll accept a bid for him if it meets their valuation (which would be 15-20m as he would've just signed a new contract). So they're attempting to save themselves having to look for another target or an extra £5m in transfer fees 1 year down the line. And they're also trying to raise Reina's valuation by loaning him to a club that have a manager & goalkeeping coach that previously had Reina playing at a world class level which might add another £5m onto his current value. Its honestly not that hard to understand. The only other thing we could've done is keep Reina, a keeper that doesn't want to be here and isn't 100% rated or trusted by the manager, and hope Mignolet didn't sign a new contract and we got him for cheaper (+ sell Reina to Barca next season). It might've worked out well but the board don't have the benefit of hindsight and there are way too many things out of the club & boards hands if they went down this route, at least the way the board have handled the situation they are in full control of the situation.
It was precisely what you said, as you were saying that because you'd spent £9m on him that it wouldn't impact on spending in other areas - which is obviously horse **** The scenario you've painted there is also a pile of horse **** imo, but if that's what you want to believe, that's fine mate.
Luckily I don't really think much of your opinion because no matter what Liverpool do you'd be sitting there trying to claim we'd made a mistake or that we were in crisis. Last season we let Carroll go before signing Dempsey and people were rightly furious. Now we are doing the opposite and bringing in a player before getting rid of someone, which people were saying we should've done last season and people are still complaining. Unbelievable.
Football isn't like a computer game. You can spend based on projected earnings, or in this case, sales. Lets say the board expect Reina to be off to Barca next summer for 8mill. 8mill now or next summer makes no difference, unless Reina's value decreases (which it probably will do now). Get it right and it's fine, accounts are totalled annually, not just within a two month summer period. Get it wrong because you over estimate projected income and you're ****ed - Portsmouth, Leeds style. So spending 9 mill on Migs doesn't necessarily affect spending in other areas imediately, but it could well bite us on the backside in January or summer depending on what happens with Pepe.
Didn't happen that way around. Valdes was confirmed as staying at Barce almost two weeks before we signed Mignolet. Which means whatever else was happening between Reina/LFC/Rafa we were prepared to have two first choice keepers for at least a year [depending on any real move from Barce]
We signed Mignolet quickly so we could get him for a decent price before the other clubs started hovering and before Pepe left leaving us without a top goalie. This is very simple and entirely correct and Tobes can witter on all he likes about it being a mistake because that's what he likes to do. The only issue is whether or not it's good business to send him out on loan and we're obviously divided on that. But as we don't know the full details and can't predict the future it's all just idle talk really.
we obviously do not know what occured between reina and lfc... can't know til reina says something. BUT... we do know barca spent a lot on neymar and didn't buy alberto so who knows what they are lookin to..... We know that whether or not supposed actions occured we know rodgers sat down in a press conference and repeatedly stated everything was fine with reina, he had dinner with the guy before the season ended and told him another keeper would come and reina was fine with competition.... ergo everyone is happy in themselves LFC have two keepers, reina might go to barca next year but we'll bed in mingolet alls good. now we find barca are not buying him at least this year... so some arrangement is made with napoli on a loan... nobody knows yet publicly why napoli. We do know the guys contract will run donw while there and so will his value. we also know that publically everyone now knows either LFC don't want the player or the player has no interest in playing with us. I would put 3 cases forward: 1. LFC play reina, put mingolet on the bench and bring him in like utd brought de gea in with lindegard. Reina leaves end of season as total legend and mingolet steps in.... Ideal? In my opinion yes. 2. LFC play mingolet, put reina on the bench and mingolet has to perform or come under pressure. Reina leaves at end of season still but hasn't enjoyed it.... LFC benefit but reina doesn't 3. LFC sign mingolet and sell reina. Mingolet has to play no matter what cos jones is terrible. Hardly ideal but one has to have faith in the decision to buy and that mingolet is that good. spend is net zero at worst In all 3 cases LFC benefit to some extent. what has happened? no 3 but barca are not offering anything.... we do not know if reina has lined a move up for next year or if his guys asked barca and they turn them down or what... LFC seem unwilling to go donw either no 1 or no 2 and SEEM more interested in getting shut of wages. SO where are we. IMO we are the suckers, reina is fine, he's got football for the WC coming up and will go as he always does, casillas, vades, de gea and reina = high competition. Napoli gain hugely by getting a world class player on loan for a small fee (what it is i'd love to know) Barca gain by having valdes and reina for half the price next year...... What do liverpool get? lower wages and low expectations.... I simply do not see any good reason to play the wage game while stewie pounces around getting the majority of minutes in preseason turning down offers from west ham and frankly looking rodgers man... if i had him he'd be getting 5mins and frankly told to f off. Instead here is one of our two world calss players (gerrard is old enough not to fit this category any more) gone on loan and the other soon to follow as he says he wants to go.... I've no issue with us perparing for the future, buying well or anyhting to do with minger really..... the issue is we look weak, flip floppers and frankly it looks like anyone can just leave when they want on thier terms. I simply don't see the benefit to my team.
4. Reina gets to play CL in a world cup year giving him a chance of being first choice for Spain. That puts him fully in the limelight for all the world to see, interest from lots of clubs ensues, Barca actually have to play a decent price, which is quite obvious they are doing their best to avoid.
MITO - Why would Barca get Reina for half the price next year? If anything, if he does well at Napoli then they may want him permanently and this will force Barca's hand to meet our valuation otherwise he'll be sold to Napoli instead. I'm sure they will be plenty of clubs that would want him. Athletico Madrid are another who will be without a keeper assuming Coutouis (sp?) goes back to Chelsea after 3 years od loans. Reina's dad played for Athletico so that may appeal to him if Barca don't come calling.
just an opinion.... why? 1. one year of contract less 2. fee the press (i hate the press but sometimes its right) have it at is 10mil which i thought was insulting 3. barca now know reina is not first choice, he is surplus. no matter how he plays he's got mingolet playing for us so he's no 1. ergo... reina is unwanted and they can bid a lot lower. 4. Its clear reina wants to go as well. If he stayed they would have to see he wants to fight for his own no 1 status. In the end i feel a side like barca need no invitation to try one on.... Atletico or barca... would you bid ten mil to us? not if you thought you could get way with something.
ermmm.... i am assuming cos we just ****ed him out on laon to napoli and kept mingolet who will be first pick over jones.... just that whole loan thing, you know.....
nothing juicy on the pages today. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...ews/liverpool-fc-boss-brendan-rodgers-5165551 rodgers admits that once minger arrives it was all about wages.... if it was all about wages then he should have been sold surely? are we seriously saying that if we said 10mil first come first served there would not have been a queue of clubs? Seems to me it could all be arranged with reina and barca.... in the end it really is a case of football doesn't matter only costs and sustainability aside if you have a world class players who's in my eyes proven he can still be world class do you go do this? I've no issue with mingolet being bought but a loan! If you were a top player looking at this you'd have to think twice surely. "It reared its head over the last few months and I had to prepare for it by bringing in a new goalkeeper." this suggest someone drew up a list of people to get rid of and footballing ability did not feature on it. Who else is on the list one wonders.... Again "“He’s got a big season ahead because it’s a World Cup year and one where, if he wasn't going to be playing, could severely harm his chances of going.” one has to wonder how ou can say in the lines before that he's a top keeper who's totally in tune with what he wants to do. So its all about cost. it doesn't matter who takes the field as long as they are on low wages. So who is in that category.... skertl? Agger? downing? suarez? Johnson? What did gerrard sign up for this week? Our first team of mingolet wisdom toure Agger enrique Lucas gerrard alberto aspas borini sterling might be it going forward as we try to race to the low wage model. Wo is next to be sold should be the question, not who is being bought. Again http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...ws/luis-suarez-arrives-australia-link-5165517 suarez is apparently winging his way to the camp now..... and mr rodgers has also stated no new deals are close... and he'll find out where they are in melbourne on targets.... in other words nothing done before everyone gets back like i said.
I must admit that I have a feeling that Suarez will stay. I can't see him going to arsenal and I'm not convinced real will bid for him. As much as i wouldn't want to keep an unhappy player I don't think Suarez would do a Torres and sulk. Once he's on the pitch it will be 100% commitment. Stick to our guns,if a £55 million offer comes in then take it but we hold all the cards and have no reason to sell. I think Rodgers will convince him to stay at least one more year. As for reina,I think we all knew that he wouldn't stay and play second fiddle but going on loan is a bit odd. However, if getting him off our wage bill allows us to bring in a marquee signing then fair enough. I like mingolet and don't think we are any the weaker for reina going, especially given his form over the last couple of years and the fact he has become more prone to injury which he never was until recently
indeed it will be interesting to see what's said next. I expect he will not play the Wednesday game before his assessments and run in but will get 45mins on the last game. Clearly nobodys offered anything bar arsenal or he'd not be here so i expect we will here a ll sweetness and light then i expect mid august we might see madrid get round to thier action or not.... Australia is a good place to get back in the kit cos nobody will give a flying F what he said there. get the lovey dovey stuff out on line and get the PR rolling.
fee will be 40mil max but i can see lower bids. in the end i am skeptical at this point about the interest as to me he's seriously damaged goods for a really big team.... mind you people keep taking a punt on some guys so why not suarez. christina viera comes to mind..... we'll see. madrid might not come in this year or they might come in late but it'll be their timetable not ours.
