The only problem, is now he will have to make a half-arsed attempt at learning a 3rd language. After so long here, his English is pretty ****.
Pepe Reina to leave Liverpool and join old boss Rafa Benitez on a season-long loan at Napoli. Liverpool have agreed a season loan deal with Napoli for goalkeeper Pepe Reina. Having signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland, the Merseyside club was willing to allow Reina to go elsewhere for first team football. Pepe Reina to leave Liverpool and old boss Rafa Benitez on a season-long loan at Napoli . He travelled to Italy on Friday to be reunited with former manager Rafa Benitez. Liverpool will shave £4m a year off their wage bill should Reina agree terms but will hope to eventually make the deal permanent. Reina was due to fly to Melbourne to join Liverpool's summer tour this weekend but the club called up rookie keeper Danny Ward instead. During eight years at Anfield, Reina won the FA Cup and League Cup, but his form has been erratic in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Luis Suarez is due to fly to Australia and resume his Liverpool career in the next 48 hours, following which he will hold further talks about his Anfield future. The Uruguayan is expected to join his team mates having flown direct from Montevideo. It will be manager Brendan Rodgersâ first chance to meet Suarez face to face and convince him to stay at the club, but it is more likely the 26-year-old will reiterate his desire to leave. Suarez has enjoyed an extended absence since playing for his country in the Confederations Cup, but he has made his position clear in a series of interviews. He said he was âwaiting for the phone call that could change everythingâ prior to returning to training, but as of Friday evening the intervention he was seeking had not arrived. Liverpool say they have no reason to presume Suarez would disobey team instructions and fail to travel, but it will come as some relief for the clubâs supporters to see their start striker back on the training pitch. The rejection of Arsenalâs bid, which ultimately would have been worth £35 million, has been well documented and it is presumed an increased offer of £40 million is on the horizon. Although a clause exists in Suarezâs contract which means he must be informed of such a bid, Rodgers has made it clear he does not believe it includes any stipulation about selling the player for a certain price. Rodgers said Suarezâs value is at least £55 million. The Northern Irishmanâs diplomatic skills now face their toughest test as he will hope he can convince Suarez to remain on Merseyside. Liverpool, meanwhile, have extended a shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered until 2016. I've always liked Reina, but his constant rangerling for a move to Barca has become tiresome. I think BR has just said if you don't see your future at LFC then we will get someone else. A loan move to Napoli could be good for his resale value, as might get clubs bidding against each other, esp if he puts in some good CL performances. We will have to wait and see what happens but unlikely to get the 20m touted around last summer. At least now we are secure in our first choice keeper and don't need to worry about Reina handing in a transfer request at any moment, I just hope mignolet can step up to the mark.
crazy... now you know what ayre was going and doing at 4am on the phone. obviously we signed minger on the hope and expectation we'd reduce our wage bill and offset the fee with selling reina.. now we are twitchy and panicky and are LOANING a world class player to napoli of all places who have 55mil burning a hole in thier pocket.... it says F off pepe to the player, says come bid 5mil for this guy whenever and frankly it appalls me. joke.....
I personally beleive this is evidence that can be used to further a claim that ayre is blowing smoke when he talks about not needing to sell to buy. the evidence to the contrary is how nothing occurred with some guys until carroll shifted then shelvey and it ended up 1mil net spend for player who frankly none of us really know are any better, just the managers preference. then we are sitting here waiting for word on first team transfers and all of a sudden one of our best 3 players (and possible the best keeper since clemence) is LOANED out... loaned? thats just rank business as it doesn't benefit the club unless a 2-4mil fee was agreed AND wages covered. we've halve his value as barca will certainly low bid. It seems to me that one possible explanation is if we did have 20mil to spend we spent it in january... in this case we are sitting on our hands waiting for suarez bid to be able to make bids for players. Honestly what do we think a player like bernard or eriksen think if they see players going out not coming in..... for that matter does anyone seriously think that if coutinho delivers that he won't be gone next summer...... You have to wonder whats going on as right now very little evidence is coming on on the other side of this.
Higuian + 20m anybody? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...offer-Liverpool-20m-plus-Gonzalo-Higuain.html
Getting rid of Reina is bad territory. One of the more out spoken players who everyone loves, been here for years and years. Still one of the best keepers in the league, only second to Hart on clean sheets. Fair enough if Barcelona were trying to buy him, but no. Rodgers and Ayre will colapse in my and others regards to them.
timmy, why are you linking the sun? Not even going to say what i think of it due to where it is reported.
IF they bought minger on the expectation reina was off then at least they were ahead of it but the general trend is not good.
So....we still haven't got a ****ing clue how to work the transfer market. We've actually gone and LOANED the best keeper we've had in years. A keeper who suits Rodgers style of play perfectly. Why? If he is off to Barca next year then why not just keep hold and use the money we spent on Ming to strengthen where we needed to strengthen? Napoli and Rafa aren't soft eh. They must be laughing their ****ing heads off to get such a good deal. Meanwhile our geniuses have just managed to wipe a large chunk off his value (as with Mandy) and spend a large part of this summers budget strengthening where we didn't need to. Barca will now be bidding for a player they know we don't even want. Bravo Good luck to Pepe, he'll be better off away from this particular train wreck of a club.
Wait until we loan Suarez to RM and take one of their youth players in exchange to replace him. Thought FSG were supposed to be businessmen? This smacks of naiivity and poor decisions.
Woke up to the news of Pepe going on loan. LOAN? Really? Just when I thought we were starting to get a bit more smart and shrewd our management goes and pulls this one out of the hat. The best keeper I've ever seen play for us, we were talking about £20m a year or two ago, and now he's going on ****ing loan. Then they'll get him for cheap as chips next season. Rodgers keeps stating in regards to the Suarez situation "We don't want to sell our best players, we're building some here", Rodgers, you just loaned one of our best players. Dear God.
Nothing would surprise me anymore not with this bunch of balloons in charge. It smacks of outright panic as well as naivity There's more flapping goes on at LFC than at a hummingbird convention.
look the only thing positive i can think of is that reina wasn't up for the fight and frankly if he's not up for a fight with a 25 year old in a side 7th best in the prem then he's better off gone anyway. for us.... maybe rodgers did think when he said to reina he was bringing in competition he naively thought it was good. again hard the best thing but its better than thinking the guy lied straight out about reina being fine with minger arriving. In the end we've gotten worse in this position not better... we still have jones as back up who is a liability and now we've a guy who ok might be great but is not proven to us while a real world class player leaves. we had a week ago a world class player with a lot of potential in his back up.... 2 players fighting for every place rodgers said.... hollow words i think
Have to agree with that mate, does seem a mad decision. But who knows what goes on in the corridors of power at Liverpool eh.
you just got to shrug.... if reina didn't want the fight fair enough... but to boast about having two players in every slot then the reality finally bites you look like you really are not in control... sell him to barca and fair enough but to LOAN him to napoli where rafa has a shed load of cash and not only that but he's appointed your favorite keeping coach as well??? either way LFC are going to be losing out on this loan. either it says pepe has barca lined up OR that he doesn't fancy napoli....
When I first saw this I thought what the hell are we doing loaning him out?! But, as it has been me to ones before, Valdes is going next year, everyone knows that. Barca therefore need a keeper and will know Reina is available as he's not needed here. That means we may spark a bidding war between Napoli and Barca. We've also now got some money off wage bill and possibly even got a a loan fee to add onto that.
All good points but like MITO said, we've been fed total bollocks by BR about how we need competition in every area. I just feel like we're being mugged off, losing a world-class goalkeeper on loan is pretty awful.
