Gianluca Di Marzio ‏@dimarzio 55m Update @willianborges88: deal done between #anzhi and @SpursOfficial. €35M to be paid in two years. Today, the brazilian will sign contract Conflicts with other reports. If the £30M is over two years then there's no real excuse for not matching it.
Ahh, that is another thing. Normally ( and we should know this with Aquaman!!!!) if it is really a high price, normally it gets cut up. With all the money from all of the sponsors, tv deals, kit sponsors, sales from the tours, shirt sales, etc how are we not able to afford some of these? I know living in your means and not wanting to go in debt but damn, frustrating.
I think the transfer committee was put into place for a reason FSG have bailed us out of losses for the last two financial years and will do again for the next. They might not be giving us 30/40mill to spend each window, but they're spending to keep us afloat. I think the message to BR and the team is to balance the books as best as they can with signings like we've seen this year. They're in it for the long term so are prepared to wait for youth to come through. Us fans tend to want success faster.
It's something that we're looking at, certainly, a player to come in in that position. It's to strengthen the squad but also to allow some of our younger players to develop. "For us to maximise Andre Wisdom and his talent, I need to get him some games. "The idea is to get him out on loan; but I can only do that if we bring in someone with a bit more experience to come in and support the group. It's two-fold really. It's certainly a position we're looking at." The manager was also quizzed at his pre-match press conference about speculation linking the Reds with a move for sought-after Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian, who is a reported target of Tottenham Hotspur. He responded: "Over the course of the summer, we have been very ambitious in our attempts to try to get in players to improve the team. "Some might say too ambitious but this is Liverpool Football Club - we are trying to get the best players that we possibly can. If we can't get them in, we just have to move on. "We've got 11 days to go, we have to do everything we possibly can. "It hasn't changed; if you're going to climb the league, you have to have quality and you have to get the best players you possibly can into your club to help you climb. That's our aim. "Of course if you don't get the player you want, there's always that initial disappointment but you can't dwell on it. There's still a chunk of the window left. "We've done some business early on in the window, which was very good. Now if we can finish off in these remaining days and get some players in that can help us, it would end a very good window for us." The Northern Irishman expanded on his desire to further Wisdom's development by allowing the 20-year-old to gain experience with a potential loan switch. "I just think the position that he plays, it's preferable if you have that wee bit of experience," said Rodgers. "We introduced him into the team last season at right-back and he did very well as a young player stepping in. He was excellent every time he played. "He played centre-half mostly throughout pre-season and I think that will be his No.1 position. But in order to do that, especially at a big club, that wee bit of experience comes in. "Unless you are in the team, which obviously he isn't, I look at it and it might be beneficial for him to get games. But it's all about timing - it has to be at the right time. "At the minute he is very much a part of the squad, but the idea of bringing someone else now with Seba injured would release him to go and get the experience we think would improve him as a player."
The real truth is I don't know if we have a budget and LFC aren't going to tell either you or me if one exists or how big it is. We know that we wre prepared to able a £25M bid for Willian. So let's assume that, as we haven't spent the money, that total is still available. But if Suarez is staying then the target(s) differ. With Suarez we can look for cheaper/younger players. Without Suarez we are almost forced to go out and pay for an established marquee player. If LFC came up with 2 more Courthino quality youngsters would you still be maoning?
It won't work, Arsenal tried it in the last 10 years and failed miserably. It will be even tougher now that teams like Spurs, Southampton and Swansea have no problem spending loads of money. It's all well and good saying we can wait for youth but we still have to get top 4 in the meantime. If we don't get top 4 this season Suarez goes, next season Coutinho, maybe Sturridge go and we get stuck in a nasty cycle of finishing 6th-7th, producing 2 good youngsters and losing 3 good players. It stinks of modern Arsenal only at least they're stuck in 4th, not 7th.
possibly, but how an earth are we no longer running at a profit, considering the wages half the team are on now compared to before and also increased revenue from sponsors tv money etc, we haven't even spent a transfer budget, how can they expect top 4 without spending money and balancing the books somehow?
Can any one think of some less high profile players who could potential come in and do that wide forward job for us? Andreas Weimann maybe? Agbonlahor. Nathan Dyer.
They have to show that though don't they. Of course we are moaning a bit, that is 3 targets, big targets, we have missed out on and one is headed to a rival. Of course there is some sour grapes. Can I still moan IF we don't sign those Coutinho signings then? Works both ways.
I think the most recent figures are 2011/2012 where Dalglish was allowed to spend and we only finished 8th. I'd be surprised if we were not making a profit after the 2012/13 season.
I do like his stance on Wisdom, he sees him being an important player for us. We can't starve him of first team experience, yet we can't give him the experience whilst we are trying to climb the league.
Weimann maybe the rest no. Still better out there and for the same price. Agbonlahor would cost a pretty penny too.
I might be on my own here but I hope we don't sign Willian. IMO the club is better off without a mercenary like this clown that has been wasting his career in the Ukraine and Russia for the sake of his bank account. Brenda has said he only wants to sign players that are hungry to pull the shirt on and I think the only thing Willan is interested in is money.
Wages have been coming down, but we've still been spending on agent fees, contract pay offs, paying wages for players to leave, loyalty bonuses still owed and whatever else. I believe the next set of figures will have us closer to even and the following year might finally see us turn a profit on our own. But FSG have been bailing us out of our losses (mostly wage related, granted) the last two years.
I can see your point but I think it is the fact that any of our targets 20+ we have failed on, these are the type of players that help you propel up the league. That is the frustrating part.
Dalglish only spent around 35mill net, the big losses from his era and Roy before him were the crazy wages our squad were on and signing on fees offered to them which needed lump paying off when we tried to get rid. You're correct though, the 2013/2014 season should see us turning a profit finally - hopefully that's not too late for us though and we'll be in the mix still. He's not even that good imo. He's ok, but nowhere close to being worth 30mill. I'm glad we dropped our interest at that price.
It seems that Willian will replace Bales position. Not an upgrade imo. We haven't got rid of Suarez so we haven't weakened in that position. Aspas had the best stats outside Real and Barca last year. It's not all doom and gloom. We still have time for stiff competition that can improve the first 11. Like I said, didn't think we'd get top 4 this season. But we still have a chance of doing as well as I thought before the Willian news.
"If LFC came up with 2 more Courthino quality youngsters would you still be maoning?" what a dumb ass thing to say, yeah i would have a right moan lol.
If you look at one that almost happened was Villa to Spurs. What was it 5 million?????? That was it! Granted he would have been on 100k a week but that is top quality and you know he has goals in him, would have been brilliant for our system too. There are deals out there, just we can't seem to find them.
