Portsmouth harbour looks great on a sunny day and I love meeting up and eating out at Gun Wharf Quay. Not struck on the town because I lived there for the first 18 years of my life, but that may had changed as well by now.

Portsmouth Harbour is great , gun wharf is great .

All places have good and bad points .

I will just say though that a Pompey person in Southampton won't be subjected to the abuse that a Southampton person would in Portsmouth .

    Island Mentality ?

    I honestly don't know .............

I've lived in Southsea for the last 14 years and I would agree on the above that you do have to be careful who finds out I'm a Saints fan, most of my street found out in 2004 when they saw me on tv at Fratton Park!
However, yes I live in Portsmouth, which on the whole is not a great city, Southsea, Milton, Eastney have a village feel and you forget you live in a city. From a family perspective there is a huge benefit to the seafront, you really do benefit from everything that is put on over the summer.
That said, i'd hardly recommend visiting Cosham or Portsea on market day - interesting mix of society right there :)

I'm loving the obvious enthusiasm coming from Koeman and his team. They're clearly, genuinely excited.

So he really is off to a nunnery then?! I thought he said that's what he was going to do in his interview, and found it amusing as I thought he must have meant something else. To be honest, his English sounds pretty good as it is, so kudos to him for wanting to improve it. Just another thing that makes me think he really is up for this!

Is that a giant football in the background, or has Ronald shrunk in the wash?

We have to see how the season goes, but I am feeling more hopeful now. When MP left, it was as if the world was falling apart...we were too small time to keep him and every player and the tea lady were off. Then we appoint a quality manager and, so far, only one player has left. Even if others leave, I believe the club when they say the money will be spent on players. The signs are that the club is playing hard ball...further supporting the idea that there is no desperation. All feels well with the world. (However, as a Saints' fan, I am well aware we may be only 48 hours from pain:)).

Sorry to come into this a bit late, but have been on my holibobs. Have just looked at Les Reed's interview after Koeman's appointment. Found it interesting that he thought Mauricio had done well for us, but that they wanted to go with someone who fitted the profile (as MP did), but who also had experience of winning silverware and being in Europe which is where he felt we should be. Have to wait and see, but does make it sound like the board feel we are making progress (as opposed to trying to stick a plaster on a wound). Feeling more positive now...especially if Koeman can prevent players leaving or attract top quality players.

Beautiful Buckland. Perhaps the jewel in Portsmouth's crown!! My old man lives there. Makes Millbrook seem posh.

Intensive language courses in a monastery or nunnery is a common thing in Holland - I used to work in Amsterdam and there were several folks at my company, mostly Turkish, who had spent a week doing just that to learn Dutch. The monks speak only Dutch, and unless you pick it up very quickly you don't eat...
