I guess I just look beyond skin, hair and eye colour then because I think the haters and media are trying too hard with that comparison. I've probably stared at Vettel pictures longer than anybody here so it becomes more of an accustomed face rather than the Chinese stereotype that they all look the same.

But to be serious and to be very honest... Any time a four time world champion is laughing, smiling and behaving like he has no worries in the world and his car is performing as terribly Red Bull is showing right now..either they have something up their sleeves or he is a total idiot. If you are a real racer you can't be all happy and smiling while your car is performing crappy and the people in the garage don't seem to know what to do about it... They don't seem to want to improve the cooling system... I think I heard one of them speaking about unsightly holes... Well if that is what it takes to get it running properly then why not? It's either they have some aces up their sleeves or they have written off at least the first part of the season.... If that is the case they could as well write off the whole season because there will be no coming back to bring them into contention. Their best hope is that mercedes, Williams, Ferrari, force India and one other team decide the first five races or so between them so that they will have a fighting chance, but if any of those teams gets a running start its good night for Red Bull. It is time for them to wipe that stupid smile off and start using some other language besides German and when the results doesn't come and wrong answers come from the garage... He needs to start using the other finger....the one in the middle. Being quite honest now is the time to show real emotion instead of getting frustrated at the races and doing silly things. You see, I prefer Lewis Hamilton being upfront with his feelings so everyone knows where stand than walking around smiling. When Mclaren were giving him all kinds of crap and want to hug him after races when they totally ......... (Can't use the word here) him up during the race. I used to be so angry when whitmarsh would come hugging after the race with a silly smile on his face. You would hear the team principal say oh, apologies to Lewis the team let him down...there would be other days....absolute crap? Racing is serious business...show it!

Well the mind sees what it believes so I guess it could be similar in his/her eyes, but for me I can't see it. I once said Icemans dad looked like Bruce McLaren but he begged to differ as he has a different sight to his father than I do. You only need a few similarities to fool the brain into seeing the same person.

What are you talking about, Dhel? Honestly... They have a problematic car, it's not like somebody died.

In racing you have to take the rough with the smooth, and if you can't smile when you're dealing with the rough, you might as well not bother showing up.

People are writing off RBR and Vettel and trying to stick the boot in way too soon.

I am not writing them off...remembering said maybe they have something up their sleeve that they are smiling like that. I understand that you must enjoy your sport ...yes I do... But I am not going to laughing a couple of weeks before the first race and the team don't seems to understand what the problem is with the car. Do you think he would enjoy or the fans would enjoy him lapping behind a catherham? I am not a Vettel fan but I want him up there battling with the big boys from the first race so nobody has excuses at the end of the season.

Red Bull may already know that this year is a write-off, but be confident that their car will be a world-beater once they have it straightened out, leaving them at the top for years once again. I wouldn't be too quick to scoff or make assumptions.

That is why I am wondering if they have some aces up their sleeves... Anyway if thing start going on the bad side for them in races we will soon see the real reaction.

The Ace up their sleeve is Newey, and if things are going lousy, I expect them to react by working their tails off. I don't think we'll be seeing too many fireworks.

Some fair points but I think your being a bit harsh on them over one picture I linked in another thread, I think your right in the sense they have something hidden which hasn't been revealed yet and are relaxed in that this is just a small bump for their long term plan in keep at the front.

With regards to Lewis being open, yes it is a good thing that he wants to be open and honest with the media but that doesn't help his teams morale when things are going wrong. I mean these guys as Schumacher has said many times '...are busting their balls out to give you the best car.' and it can go all go sour if somebody like Lewis steps out of line and starts blaming an area of the car being the main problem by either saying 'I don't have enough traction or aero like the Red Bull' eventually you have designers passing the blame on whose fault it is or leaving because they're sick of being called the problem. Diplomats win titles, not hot head racers because true leaders must know when to attack and when to get behind somebody to make them work better when they too are having a **** period.

The guys back home don't get the millions or the lifetime assurance on their 5 houses like drivers and TP's get. If I spent 8-9 years trying to become an F1 designer with 10 years of hard work under my belt I would tell every driver to f**k off if he accused me being the reason why he didn't win, see that? That's what driver honesty with the media does IMO, makes the guy who is less financially stable than you pretty pissed off and that it might start affecting the whole division. Vettel puts his team first and everything else second when it comes to F1. Some lies are actually better then the honesty for some people who are not in the limelight and do not enjoy being pointed out as it could kill their confidence for the rest of the season.

Vettel treats his team as he he treats his family, protective and will not put them on the spot if things goes tits up. Renault made a big hash of the engine yet he hasn't pointed at them as the problem for his cars problems Helmut Marko and the media are doing that well enough in that department. Vettel's calm speaks words in that he is very confident in that they can fix this problem, he fuels his teams mind in that their 4 time world champion has complete faith in them to fix it as their actions will speak louder than what he would ever say to the media. I think there's no other driver able to control his team as well as Seb, he knows when to lay off and support the team and when to make them push further. I mean there were times Red Bull didn't even think they had a shot yet Vettel turned it around in 2010 and 2012 the guy is just a natural leader.

This, Red Bull are in pretty much in lock down mode now so nothing will happen. Vettel isn't stupid in the sense he wouldn't of signed the contract last season unless he didn't know for a fact that a couple more titles would eventually come his way and all he just needed to do was ride through a pointless bumpy season like this one.

Mercedes might dominate 2014, but will they challenge Red Bull from 2015-2019? 1 season vs 5 seasons...

Newey generally has more of a long-term plan when it comes to his cars, which can start out a ropey, but become mighty through evolution.

My favorite Newey car, the FW14 was an unreliable pile when it started out, and look what that became.

When the flaming by the haters settles down in about 4-5 GP's nobody will actually care about their problems anymore because no drama's will come out of that camp to feed them as they would of got what they wanted, a season where Vettel is unable to challenge their favourites for the title. Of course we'll be treated by a few hundred photoshops of Vettel's broken finger and a variety of gifs around 5 seconds, with them then explaining the 50 reasons why Vettel is a spoilt brat in that gif etc... because he wasn't smiling, and if all goes to plan maybe an odd meme to boot.

The media will jump on the train making up every story they can get like Benson to make out Vettel is leaving the team and is taking his toys with him. The haters will believe anything that comes out of the 'rumoured' mouth to the point that it's been reported Vettel has drowned a bunch of kittens just after eating their mother ofc...

Yes I do expect a lot of 'NEW' things to happen this year with regards to stories with Seb like every other driver who has been in the "hated position"...

Most probably... Well it's already started really. But jumping on that particular bandwagon could leave one with egg on their face.

To be honest I did the same back in 2009 when I was probably the biggest Hamilton hater around, but in hindsight during those periods are probably the most Lewis ever proved me wrong, that and during the 2012 season, Spain 2012 when he proved he could tyre conserve with the best was my favourite humbling.

And in some respect I'm glad he did.

All drivers are going to have highs and lows... It's just the nature of motorsport. It's odd how F1 fans are so partisan though. I watch Indy and it's cool to support a handful of drivers there. Not quite so much driver hate.

Ok.. Going to put this entire "which tyres he used" argument to bed.
Hamilton set his fastest time today on SOFTS. He had 2 sets of Supersofts available at the end, and on both attempts didn't get it right. Source AMuS

Mercedes looking good pace wise, Hamilton also saying there's more speed to come from the car.
