The question is, does it comply with the regulations, if it does then there will be nothing the others can do about it until there is an adjustment in the regs. If it doesn't, then I imagine Merc will already have an alternative to the (can we call it a wing mirror please?) wing mirror in it's current setup.
Pretty much. When RBR started distancing themselves from any comments that may have been made by Horner, it was probably because Newey already had a few sketches of his own interpretation.
I seem to remember Adrian Newey once saying that 'spirit of the rules doesn't exist' only the rules count!
How easy, when you see Red Bulls design focus of the current car, will it be able to be incorporated into that though? Red Bull and Merc seem quite different design from the outset, and if they wanted to go the Merc route , wouldn’t that mean more wind tunnel testing, which I thought would was limited?
I imagine it would be a pretty heavy lift, yes. Or maybe Newey looked at it, laughed, and said that bugger is just going to explode.
If Merc, as they have said have consulted the FIA from the start regarding this design and they have said it is legal, wouldn’t that make the FIA technical team/ regulators look a bit incompetent if it then gets banned?
sessions stopped due to williams the recovery process looks like its electrical fault. the guy has put a rubber mat down and has a multimeter out LOL
actually rear brake failure something wore out the calipers or wore on something and a fun spin for latifi
mercedes finally decide to come out. and straight back in again. but ferrari are still out and pounding round.
one thing i was wondering. I don't think merc have changed their front wing design here so does it not matter from the perspective of sidepods? that front wing air flow must work either with both or was actually a compromise?
I sort of remember the ground effect cars of the 1980’s with the skirts etc to seal the floor. Now that they’ve brought ground effect back and technology has advanced so much, why can’t they bring them back, especially with all the flexing of the skirt and the teams asking for extra stays for reinforcement?
Is it me or do a lot of cars look like they’re really struggling out there? It’s almost like the neatest laps are where drivers are nursing the power through and just smooth and gentle on the throttle. Brundle had just talked about it being a “patient” driving style. Merc and Ferrari look more in control this morning- Merc look tidier and Ferrari are similar and quick, but just the nagging porpoising doubts George in particular looked really good on the hard tyre which on other cars has looked a horrible, turgid grip less tyre, so Merc do look like they’re honing in their performance as they so often have.
just for giggles, Merc not in top 10 , start from back row as there new design is banned after qualifying.
Merc by 3 seconds then DQ. Mclaren 2nd Red bull 3rd Aston 4th Alpha 5th (aka 9th to 10th) Ferrari to struggle as they are looking extremely skittish to me. times might look good but when the wick gets turned up full I reckon the sounder cars like mclaren will come to the fore. I think that the most stbale cars go quickest in corners thats all and most tracks do have corners
I’d love to see Jenson Button driving these cars- he’d have a field day with the smooth style he had!
