Williams win the award for binning any drag, not even a monkey seat.

A cheeky bet on a Bottas pole and win might be worth a little gamble.

Gutierrez up high after his first run... Williams much lower than expected.

Vettel's new helmet makes me want to throw up.

Watching onboard with Merhi it staggers me how utterly awful the Caterham looks - loads of understeer and so much less traction than anybody else on corner exit. It's like watching a Tyrell car from the late 80s that has somehow found its way onto a modern F1 grid.

Also I didn't notice Pic was back on the grid, replacing Grosjean for this session! Unfortunately the Lotus is garbage, there is a genuine danger that they could be outqualified by Marussia.

Sorry guys but I have to query the poll for this race: surely if Rosberg is Dastardly, then Lewis must be Penelope 'Hey-elp, hey-elp' Pitstop, no?

Oh, and Bottas bears more than a passing resemblance to Muttley.

Back on topic, it's nice to see Button proving me wrong for suggesting he was 'past it' :)

    Just a quickie before FP2.

Earlier, I got chance to check out the revisions to Parabolica. Many drivers are making use of green-piece, renaming it 'semi-track', which probably vindicates the purist view that they are not only less punished for going out of bounds, but are actively encouraged to risk doing so!

However, everyone present should have a good long look at one driver*. Hamilton is easily quickest through here but not going over the white line with any wheel. He is taking a different line and, at the risk of sounding like the proverbial 'fanboy' (gulps just in case!), I have to admit that his delicate dance of late braking and early power is nothing short of sublime. If he gets it wrong, he will be in serious trouble; but watching him through here this morning was, as my friends over the pond would say, awesome.

*In fact, that's what some have been studying, pretending they don't want to scratch their heads…
(Sorry if this sounds a bit OTT Miggs; but if you were trackside, I'm sure you'd appreciate it too!).
    :)

Interesting that Massa has the most number of parts available. I imagine that's because he's been taken out of so many races <laugh>

Se he's going to clean up the last 4 races when all the top runners get grid penalties and he is on pole by default!

Much closer than expected today I felt. Reminded me a lot of the Austrian GP grid- another fast, tight track. Williams were very strong there so it will be interesting to see if they are again when they head out tomorrow- almost every race weekend they peak in quali and perform well beyond their P1 and P2 benchmarks.

Of course having said that the Mercs have a little left in the locker so they are still warm favourites.

McLaren more promising. A good quali would really help them because I can imagine them being tricky to overtake (much like Williams) this weekend.

Stellar from Alonso and Raikkonen so far this weekend.
