If they could use the fuel as they choose, it would still limit engine power to a degree. They couldn't run full power all race as it would use up fuel, but as part of a strategy they could turn up the wick for a bit to gain a place, in the hope they can hold on to it later when they need to save some fuel towards the end. Could effectively mean DRS can go as you'd end up with a boost button function which a driver could use whenever he fancied to attack or defend, though not like Indycar used to have with its push-to-pass thing.
I think they have enough juice to play with, give them any more and no one would run out of fuel. As to DRS, it's always been a badly thought out idea imo, it's inherently unfair I thought they were going to ditch it when they bought in Turbos. Give em all 30 seconds of DRS per race then it actually becomes a strategic device rather than a random power-up
Fair point on the fuel. And yes with the DRS. It would be much be to have had it work in a similar way to push-to-pass in Indy. Limited usage that can be used to pass or defend, but when you're out of pushes, you're done.
What I dont like is using the DRS on lapped cars to prevent a chasing car from overtaking. I think that is grossly unfair. Imagine this... A car is chasing you and catching you quickly..he is within the DRS range to make the move...but hey, in front of you is a lapped car so you use your DRS to prevent him from catching and overtaking.
btw, did anyone actually believe that Wolff had the same set-up as Massa during FP1, when she 'impressed' by getting the 2nd fastest car to 16th?
Who knows. Was she on super-softs, what program was she running, was she asked to do quali-spec runs? Plus, it was her first proper run in the car this year, even then she did only 20 laps. Was certainly a respectable performance, as we all know she is no Vettel/Alonso etc, but am sure she is easily as 'good' as some drivers on the grid.
I don't, I think everything was set up to look make her look good, I suspect Massa's engine was turned down and hers up which is why he was so off the pace in FP1, and I suspect she has been on that simulator going around Silverstone and Hockenheim non-stop, they are so desperate to make a woman look good, without having to actully hire a good one and stick her on the track. I must say the thing that ****s me off most about the women in F1 crap is they never ever mention the white South African female who won a non championship f1 race, wouldn't want to upsety the PC brigade by using a white person from an aparthied country (unless they are an Aussie of course)
Sauber should give de Silvestro a run out in some practice sessions. She showed some promise in Indy. Let's face it... She has to be at least on par with the current Sauber pairing.
Look at Williams in FP1 today, also slow, just like they were in FP1 at Hockenheim. SOme of your conspiracy theories are laughable. They made Massa bad to make Susie look good, Merc favour Hamilton, FIA favour Mercedes, blah blah blah The reason Desire Wilson rarely gets mentioned is because it wasn't an F1 race, just races held in old F1 machinery, kind of like the old BOSS series that used to run. Her win would be no greater than any other woman who has won a race in a lower formula or spec series, of which there are many so don't see why it would get much of a mention. It's got **** all to do with her being South African, that's just your xenophobia coming through again.
Quite. Miggins seems to think that anyone who sits in an F1 car has to be awesome, when we all know that at least half of the grid are barely average, so why a female racer who compares with such drivers cannot race is beyond me. For Miggins little narrow minded brain, it's just incomprehensible.
I think in some ways, it is great publicity to get a female driver in a racecar, and sometimes it could be argued that some get the opportunity because of their marketability or connections over ability where others get overlooked. There are so few women that come in to racing, and the chances of one of them getting the backing and support early enough, and then going on to make it to the top is very very slim. Just look how many budding racers never get a look in. I'd love to see a woman come in and kick ass! It would be brilliant! And I have no doubt it will happen!
Many of them don't deserve their seats i agree, but all of them have done more to deserve the chance than Susie Wolff. I would be intersted to see what De Silvestro could do. Sadly she seems to have less money than VDG.
