So Vettel should have had 3 or 4 penalties himself in the GP for jumping the last chicane? Had he followed the track correctly then he would have lost even more time than taking to the escape road. Should he have given Hamilton the lead at the end of the 1st lap? Be careful what you wish for. With regard to both Monaco & Canada incidents, neither Hamilton or Vettel gained a place by cutting the chicane. They retained their position. Question in both cases is does that then constitute an unfair advantage? In both cases the answer from the stewards was no. There is also a general rule that if you cut a chicane/corner more than 3 times in a race you will get a penalty. Should Seb have had a drive through? Fortunately he didn't and the battle for the lead went deep into the race. You want penalties handed out like they used to be? Races ruined because of petty stewarding decisions because of driver error?
I think you'll find he lost time going around the bollard, he didn't gain the lead or keep his lead doing it, did he? Hamilton didn't lose any lap time at all with his 2 chicane jumps and gained a massive advantage, Vettel lost between 1.5 and 2.5 each time he did it Context isn't your strong point is it.
Cutting corners is cutting corners. Vettel kept the lead because he was able to correct his mistake by taking to the escape road. Is that not what Hamilton also did? As for a 'massive' advantage, Hamilton did what he could to follow the line of the chicane, so much so it disadvantaged him on the exit which allowed Ricciardo to have a shot at him on the exit. If he had taken the chicane properly Ricciardo would not have been able to do that. So where is the advantage there compared to Vettel's lap 1 escape? Context isn't my thing, well maybe, but rationale and impartiality is certainly not yours
I think the difference between the two, is one had a orange kerb/ speed bump and a keep left bollard to reduce or negate an advantage and one didn't. That is the problem not the drivers - F1 picking and choosing when it does of doesnt implement track limits. It's either a rule or it isn't.
Where there is now the run off at the last chicane, there used to be grass or a gravel trap. Mistakes were punished, so drivers probably erred on the side of caution and would never brake too deep knowing there was no get out of jail card available. Daftest thing ever was tarmacking all run off areas. Little encouragement for drivers to obey track limits when the consequences are so small.
Like I said earlier, Hammys fourth WDC is on its way, he was simply pacing it and got it spot on. You have just witnessed the matured Lewis Hamilton.
Vettel is back to classic Vettel. Chumming up to Hamilton and toying with Rosberg. He doesn't have the car so he has to try and create an opportunity. Mind games, all games.
Happy birthday EB. Hope you have a goodn. What is 70? Other than a speed limit you won't be sticking to tomorrow
70? Nice one! Congratulations & have a great day. Remember - a big cake with 70 candles on it. Not a big cake with 70 strippers leaping out of it.
