Natural speed is the main factor in some sports, like athletics, but Formula 1 drivers need to be consistent and manage the whole package. Can only assume there was too much debris across the whole of the track for the cars to find a safe way through. With the tyre issues of last year, the last thing they need is high speed blowouts caused by cut tyres again.
