I'm sure this must've been mentioned before but would F1 be better for points for qualifying? It certainly seems fairer than the double points for a one-off season-ending finale.
I think the separate pole trophy works well for rewarding poles now. If we start giving points for pole, it opens it up to points for fastest lap, most laps lead, who was leading on lap X, etc. Keep it simple imo.
Praying for no reliability issues. Good job by Rosberg to get pole but that's been the case many times this season, I think he still has a point to prove in the race when it comes to managing the tyres and controlling the pace.
If this tweet has any truth behind it, that's pretty damning: No surprise they were excluded from qualifying. To me that's just plain cheating and makes me wonder how many races they've had it.
Quality lap by Rosberg to get Pole. Looking at the "side-by-side" of their laps, Hamilton looked up at the first corner and just didn't recover that time, for the rest of the lap they looked pretty well matched. Also, some have pointed out that he appears (Did Toto confirm this?) that he's setup is geared up for the Race, which ties in with the long distance runs on Friday where he was able to put in some decent times, consistently over a longer period of time. Another point, Rosberg set his fastest time in Q2 on a set that has now done 2 laps more, given they only last about 6-8 laps that could be a factor, on top of that, he flat spotted them too. The biggest issue for Hamilton (assuming there are no car issues) is can he get out of the first corner without being tagged, if they make it past the first corner without issue, you can see him settling in behind Rosberg and maybe having a go at him just before the first steps start.. The Williams will be rapid up until turn 8 but the rest of the lap the Mercs have the upper hand, so come lap 2 onwards Rosberg and Hamilton will be out of DRS range.. I'm hoping for a clean race, not effected by retirements, here's hoping for another Bahrain'esqe GP! With regards to drop points, I think Hamilton has been effected more. Australia - Will assume for arguments sake that had he not retired he'd have finished 2nd at worst, so 18pts lost. (Ros 0, Ham 18) Canada - Again, both suffered issues, Rosberg able to bag 2nd, assuming if Hamilton could have nursed his car same way Rosberg did, you could say he lost max of 15pts. (Ros 0, Ham 33) Britain - Gear box robbed us of a potentially great race, will assume Rosberg held on for the win, so DNF cost him 25pts, Hamilton gain 7 pts. (Ros 25, Ham 26) Belgium - Taken out by his team mate, as with others, will assume the person first at the time would have gone onto win, so Hamilton, 25pts lost. (Ros 25, Ham 51) Singapore - Issues at the Start for Rosberg, again, assuming they finish in the start order (Hamilton did look strong there all weeke), so Rosbery, 18pts lost. (Ros 43, Ham 51) So by that very simple logic, Hamilton could be 25pts clear of Rosberg by now, and given he's won more GPs he's be World Champion already without this stupid Double points rule! NOTE: This doesn't factor in the points that Hamilton would/could/may have been lost due to issues at with his car during qualifying at Austria and Germany.
Since 2010? Ferrari better get the appeals team ready, Alonso could be a 4 time world champion come Monday evening
Hopefully, by tomorrow evening, all the hypothetical calculations of which drivers have theoretically dropped more or fewer points in relation to their teammates will be even more irrelevant than they are now. I know it's fun to speculate, but whoever does it is naturally inclined to draw the lines where they want to prove the point they want. I mean, if driver A hadn't retired on lap 1, how do you know what effect he may have had on the whole of the rest of the race?
RB Racing statement: please log in to view this image Jo Bauer's report: "When checking the front wing of car numbers 01 and 03 it was found that the front wing flaps were designed to flex under aerodynamic load. In my opinion this is not in compliance with Article 3.15 of the Formula One Technical Regulations. Therefore I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration. " Would also fit with the wing having a mechanical device to aid flexing. AMuS have elaborated on the leaf spring too: If that's accurate, then the back of the grid (pitlane start when they break parc ferme to change the illegal parts) is a pretty minor penalty for what amounts to wilful cheating. I really can't imagine they've only introduced it for the final race. Vijay Mallya gets it spot on:
Yet according to Horner, RBR are the victims and it's unfair that they've been "singled out": So brave: little Jack Horner vs. the evil Goliath of the FIA. They're picking on us, the bullies, it's just so unfair!
Red Bull are the equivalent of the Republican party, a huge group of twats with far too much money who moan constantly about being picked on by too much regulation.
