I guess I always saw classical music as a bit of a chore when I was doing GCSE Music but I can appreciate it now.

Can anyone recommend similar composers to Chopin, or some of his pieces you like? I love his Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2

My favourite Chopin nocturnes are the E flat major op.55 and the C minor op.48. My favourites of his other pieces would have to be the Fantasie in F minor op.49 and the Ballade in F major op.38.

And here's a few nocturnal piano solo recommendations from other composers:

Ravel - Gaspard de la Nuit
    Fauré - Nocturnes
    Scriabin - Piano Sonata No.9
Scriabin - Preludes op.11 (so influenced by Chopin that you'd think they were early pieces of his)
    Satie - Gnossiennes
Mendelssohn - Songs Without Words (Books op.19 or op.30 are the best)
    Rachmaninoff - Preludes op.32
    Takemitsu - Uninterrupted Rests

edit- random note - I have a print of the Delacroix portrait of Chopin hanging in my hallway. [/pretentious]

No worries at all, I went for a range of styles and periods dating from early 19thC to mid 20thC, plenty of different directions taken so if you dislike one you may still like some others.

Haha, nah no mad solos unfortunately. It was brilliant though, the production was top notch as would be expected. Thinking of going to see the same company perform Prokofiev next month now.
