Yeah, i'm definitely not judging them on that song! As soon as i heard they were doing an album with Lou Reed i wrote it off as St Anger levels of musical incompetency. Besides, even if i were to judge them on this, i know they're still a great band (having seen them live recently) and that their back catalogue (Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, Kill Em All, ...And Justice For All especially) makes up for it!

I listen to a **** ton of underground rap/hip-hop, but probably not the best forum to post it on?

And a hella load of Jazz and variations of the genre.

I actually adore the fact that zeTom listens to underground rap to be honest. There's only a few of us on this thread that actaully post rap/hip-hop tracks so nice to get enough another.

That G Rap track is classic - still class him in the top 5 storytellers in hip-hop history; such vivid imagery, not to mention a great rhymer.

    He definitely up there.

I'm sure I'll get to know people's like and dislikes so for now I'll just post a variety.

    The bassline on this >>>>>>>>

but what did You expect with Marco Polo on the boards.

One of the best albums of 2011 (not as good as Daily Bread by Apollo Brown and Hassan Mackey (Which I personally think is far and away the best of the year and will not be surpassed) and DTMD - Makin' Dollars with its J-Dilla vibe).

Good to know there are some genuine hip-hop heads in here, not just casual fans of much of the garbage around.

Love that song, shame Kweli doesn't have a more prominent feature; Quality is one of my favourite albums ever.

Didn't get into Apollo's Brown album to be honest. The Left's Gas Mask was amazing though. Album of the year, for me, will go to either Masta Ace's MA Doom album or Lowkey's Soundtrack To The Struggle. Shame Nas' album won't be out till 2012 (I assume).

Might as well chuck a few songs out:

    EDIT: Talking of Marco Polo:

Gas Mask is pretty similar to Daily Bread, except for the fact that there is actually a good emcee over Apollo's amazing production. Think he recycled some beats from that for Daily Bread too. Personally I loved every track on the album. Masta Ace and Dooms colab is gonna be sick.

Talib Kweli is an alien, nobody else sounds anything like him. I love some of his music.

Have you listened to some of the albums thats dropped a few days back?

Phonte - Charity Starts at Home

    &

9th Wonder - The Wonder Years

A few good songs on each, but 9th's features weren't good enough for his brilliant beats. Phonte shaded it overall. But neither am I that high on.

EDIT: One of my favourite tracks ever. Competing with For Pete's Sake as my favourite track.

I was actaully talking about The Reset from 2010 - haven't got around to Daily Bread yet. His production comes across as really timeless - it has an almost updated old school feel. Raw but not out of date.

Cannot wait for that MA Doom - I'm actaully glad Doom doesn't have a feature to be honest, not a fan of his rapping. Shame Ace is using some recycled beats for it, though; he deserves some original production. Hoping he can recapture Long Hot Summer form again (without the ****ty features) - PBS shows good promise for it.

Haven't listened to either, although 9th Wonder has some amazing production so will probably check it out.

    Diggin' the Barington Levi track.

Not Jeru's best track but I'm loving the bass I'm gettin' from it right now.

EDIT: The Reset was good but it doesn't touch Daily Bread IMO. Clouds is sick to, I just love 'chilling out' and listening to that whole album from start till finish.

    Can't beat some Slick Rick

I love how he can have a humerous story throughout then end with "this ain't funny so don't you dare laugh" and make the listener feel uneasy about what they've just heard. The upbeat "Goodnight!" just emphasises that. Such a clever lyricist.

I love Slick Rick. Treat Her Like A Prostitute is such a banger from the same album, but there are many.

    Recycled on this track:

I leave you with a few from my favourite LYRICIST, not artist or rapper. Won't have internet for maybe up to a week, hopefully less as I move in to my new flat tomorrow and need to get to sorted, being a student in a student city its gonna take time.

Meh, could never get into Kool Keith. That Dr Octogan is a good concept album, though.

Never found Apathy that interesting, to be honest. Don't like that AOTP/JMT style of writing at all - lots of forced rhymes and filler punchlines. Can't stand Vinne Paz.

I find so many underground emcees are overrated as **** and a lot are pretty dull lyricists (Immortal Technique is my best example; he's absolutely awful) - someone like Copywrite is an example of an exception. My favourite rappers ever are probably more mainstream based (prime Eminem, Nas)
