The big thing I notice is his anticipation is dreadful and it was the same today. He jumped early for the ball so often it was unreal.

Anyone listened to pards post match?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/16459089.stm

hat off to him for being dead honest again. Also saying the ref had a super game. When have you ever heard a manager say something like that? Really, he didn't get much wrong I don't think. Cabs apparently ok.

Best came off because he was visibly struggling with an injury, why are people so desperate to slate Pardew for something?

In fairness as soon as Perch came on we actually looked very settled in possession.

It made sense, Gutierrez went to the left wing and Perch was the DM in the 4-3-3/4-5-1.

Yeah. The problem was, Shola was still on the pitch, and our main striker had gone off to be replaced by a defensive midfielder when arguably we should have been pushing for a second.

EDIT: Also, why Perch and not Abeid?

Perch is the tried and tested method for shutting out other teams at the ends of games. It works so why try to change it?

Perch is the butt of many jokes but he does a decent job in DM and asking Abeid to come on and help us when we absolutely needed to be solid might have been too much for him. Pushing for a 2nd goal would have helped, but after 80 minutes there's no real point, just protect what you have.

I understand this but Abeid proved his worth against Blackburn and, as a younger player, should really have gotten the nod IMHO. He needs gametime.

Nevertheless I was impressed with how well we played when Perch came on, though I suspect being up against QPR might have had something to do with that.

For 10 mins when we're protecting a 1-0, I'd go for Perch. Any other situation I agree with you.

If it was 3 or 4 nil, I think Abeid would have come on, but you go for the tried and tested in that situation rather than take a risk with a youngster.

Am I right in saying that Best hasn't scored in 4 months prior to today and still has more than Carroll for the season?
