decent win... very much just falling over the line stuff again... desperate times really but welcome. need to be 1000 times better than this. fear is a bad bedfellow for footballers.
If Gerrard plays in that role with someone like Sturridge playing off the shoulder AND sterling getting more freedom because of that... I see it working
Reading back through the comments it doesn't look like we played too well. Mason had a good game though, right?!
I hope that means Rodgers' realises he can't play every game from now on and is going to rest him more and play him in specific games!
Same. Not sure about MOTM but he played well. This is what bugs me with this board, people form a opinion on a player and then it doesn't matter what they do in the game. Gerard deserves credit for tonight, he made some great runs, linked up play and was always available.
Oh, and booing Sterling was ridiculous. Mason ****ing raped him tonight. He got nothing from the referee! Nothing!!!
Rodgers on Gerrard rotation: "Steven Gerrard was rested last weekend with tonight in mind. When you rest a player people ask why. When you play them you are asked why aren't you resting them. The energy from being rested at the weekend gave him the energy to play tonight."
The win papered over a lot of cracks. Still a defensive shambles, struggled to really create or create sustained pressure until Morgan got sent off. Very frustrating because we look so much more dangerous when we finally decide to pass it round their defences. Think we;re playing too many long balls and crosses. Gerrard will get the plaudits but personally thought he was invisible for most of the game, up until Morgan was sent off. And there is some really poor decision makers in the team. Allen had a great chance to feed Sterling through but played the wrong - will let him off slightly as he's simply not an attacking player but still expect better. Lallana could have played Sterling through but stopped and dwindled on the ball. Sterling took the wrong option a few times but in his defence, he was practically doing everything himself. Sterlng will get some criticism from for his wastefulness but I thought he was brilliant - constantly on the move. He recognised he had space to work in and he made some great runs all night. If SAS were playing tonight, they would have had a field day against Leicester's defence. Still annoyed that Rodgers keeps Lambert and Gerrard on for the full 90. Completely bonkers and it just invites more pressure. But enough of the negativity. We scrapped for another 3 points which is what we need to do until Sturridge gets back into the team.
I'll give credit when it's actually due. I won't be swayed by 1 or 2 moments in an entire 90 mins or else I'd have my tongue in Johnson's arse after his goal. But in all seriousness, I just felt Gerrard was completely missing up until Morgan got sent off - and then he did start to become more involved and looked threatening. Showed great legs and burst of speed at times.
I thought it was pretty much only him and sterling looking to create something all game, he was explosive when they went to 10 men - he really started to go for the jugular at that point. Let's not forget, lambert reallllllllly slows things down and was offside for no reason half a dozen times. Need Sturridge back to get to our best that's for sure
