Bringing in a striker wont be just down to Rodgers. He may want one that the club wot give him funds for or whatever, lots of reasons why we might not get one BR knows we need a striker and we'll get one! Lets be calm
It's an enormous leap to suggest that not buying a striker leads to a run of 7 or 8 games without a win and therefore threatens BR's job. It's a little like those who said in January that not buying reinforcements meant we definitely wouldn't make top 4. Far too many possibilities and assumptions being taken as inevitabilities. We are quite publicly searching for a striker, if we can't get the right one at the right price what would you have us do? If we don't, then we will probably find it a struggle should Sturridge get injured, but to suggest that this equates to a bad run is a complete non-sequitur. It's a possibility, no more. BR's job being under pressure is also a possibility, but one so remote at this point I can't imagine why we would even consider it at the moment. I know we live in an era of short attention spans and limited patience, but to talk of his job being under pressure before the season has started, after he's just taken us from 7th to within a midge's dick of the title is surely just scaremongering? Let's at least see who we buy and how we play before we start worrying about worst-case scenarios.
Agreed Saint I remember last Jan, majority of us (me included) thought we had no chance! I'd still like to see what Kono can do in our league though, talks of West Ham but not seen anything since
I was in the "no proper DM, then no top 4" but got proved wrong but I think we got lucky that we didn't lose any of the CM's in the last part of the season, until Henderson was banned and then it sort of fell apart! Think that proved why we all said we needed someone as we had no cover for injuries/suspension. I do actually think if he had some cover for Hendo in those games, we probably would have won at least 1 of them between Palace/Chelsea and who know what might have happened. I still think we are missing something in that midfield. When Bender came on for Dortmund today he showed us the type of midfielder we are missing at the moment.
This will be a painfully interesting game for Saints fans and I expect that this will be the crowning of a summer of suffering for us. I cant see any chance of us hitting the ground running against such a settled side and I hold out little hope of a result at Anfield. Liverpool won this opener with your cheque book months ago. It will be weeks before we see a settled Saints side turn out so I would expect to see plenty of goals but not from us sadly. I hope I'm proved wrong.
One of the reasons could be the strikers themselves not wanting to come; aka Falcao, Sanchez, Cavani, Benzema, etc. I don't want to see us signing a striker for the sale of it!
No they have to be right and wannt to be here which BR is certainly pushing, must have right mentality etc Apparently Bony was gutted when we were put off by price and dont forget we enquired about him before Remy
I cant think players like Bony and Benteke wouldn't want to come to us (no disrespect to their current clubs) but we are a step up and can offer CL football and a chance at winning trophies (although admittedly Swansea did win the LC recently). I'd put them as the net level down strikers compared to the Falcao's, Cavani's Sanchez etc. The £20m striker instead of the £30m+
For me benteke and bony are not 20 mil players and cannot be compared to those others However we will see as I cannot see how either fit the style or would make a 41212 work with sturridge
I reckon our team will be: ---------------Mignolet-------------- Manquillo-Skrtel-Lovren-Moreno ----------------Gerrard--------------- -----Henderson----Coutinho------ ----------------Sterling--------------- ------Sturridge------Falcoa---------- Cavani on the bench. Its a shame Reus is injured. He'd be useful in this game.
The 'garbage' comment was more to do with the place being awash with OT threads, which is what happens off season. This place is addictive but it's surprising how quickly you can become unhooked [is that a word ???] I'm always telling you about staying away from pathology so I followed my own advice and the up side was missing all the Suarez bite stuff and aftermath ......
