In the Premier league we've only had a 9-game streak (2006) and a ten game streak (2005)*. However, it seems (another source**) that, in 2006 and 1989, we had runs of 11 unbeaten games. Apparently (according to everything I've read!) we've never won 12 games on the trot! Worrying! *http://lfcstats.co.uk/premierstreaks.html **http://www.lfchistory.net/Stats/Article/2911
I'm sure you realise this but unbeaten is different to a winning streak. We didn't get eleven league games in 2006. I checked the dates on the link then looked at our results on the Liverpool website. We got nine leagues games. We didn't win a league game in February 89. We won nine leagues games in that instance too. However throw in the cup games and both become eleven. The 2005 reference is ten games when applied to the league only. We didn't win all the cup matches inbetween.
Just got back from Georgia and after fighting off he Russians, I finally had some time here..... Raheem Sterling take a ****ing bow.
I don't think I can keep watching Glen Johnson wearing a Liverpool shirt - my god, this bloke is unbelievably poor.
I have never really rated him but he's getting worse. Flanagan actually makes a few mistakes too, probably nearly as many as Johnson but the difference in effort from both players is shocking and Johnson is supposed to be an experienced prem defender.
I don't think Glenda is good enough; compared to the rest of the team he is definitely the weak link. However, in the grand scheme of things, I don't think he is as bad as people make out. He's not Cissoko bad or Moses bad. He's merely inadequate.
Thing with Johnson is, he's getting harshly treated because we know what he is capable off as we've seen it the last 3-4 years. His defending has never been top notch but he always made up for that with his attacking power. Now he isn't offering that he is becoming just an average fullback who is extremely well played.
Just can't take many more chest high chips to the opposition from him - when your up against it then it is infuriating .
Anyway, my ratings (and these are the calmed down version): Migs: 5 Shot-stopper, cross-flapper. Next three games (especially against Pulis) will be nerve wracking aerial bombardment. Johnson 5: Was once his biggest supporter. Dreadful on the ball when retaining possession. Skrtel 7: Best defender, but lost attackers at set pieces too. Sakho: 6 Won every header - and then directed the clearance invariably to an opponent. Can't do this keep ball when two goals up with him and Johnson in the back four. Flannagan. 6 Sound first half, good going forward. Didn't stop one cross in the second and allowed Snodgrass a free jump for their second. Lucas 6: Still giving away daft fouls in dicey positions. Gerrard 7: calming but still prone to losing his man at set pieces. Allen 7: Our best midfielder, but no Henderson. Suarez 7: Flashes of genius, flashes of hastiness and wastefulness. Coutinho 6: Good first half, faded badly in the second when away from home - again. Sterling 8: Stepped up, but seemed to want to keep giving the ball back to Johnson when we were 3-2 up rather than go forward and get a killer fourth. Overall 6. Three points, but panicky and desperate at times, and sends a message to our next three opponents who and where our weaknesses are. Pity, at 2-0 up we should have gone for the jugular and gone in three or four up at half time. This team needs athree goal lead before they pfaff around playing keep-ball along the back line. Hope to **** we try to do to Chelsea what we did to Arsenal, Everton, Spurs and City (in the first twenty minutes) and don't go out for a draw. A far more experienced and better team once tried to go out and not get beaten by two goals, and look what happened to them. Must BATTER Chelsea next Sunday to send out a message to Palace and Newcastle. Would hate to have to win our last game against a team with nothing to lose, as City will testify after nearly blowing it against a safe QPR two seasons back.
Pretty much agree with every apart from the following: He's our best defender with the ball - he looks awkward but he is incredibly composed and his passing is quick and incisive. He did lose the ball once or twice but he shouldn't have been given it in the first place. Flanno put him under pressure. I think you're quite generous to Lucas. I would give him 4/5. To be fair, he was decent in the first half but I think this sums him up - he looks good when the team is doing well. But he's useless when we're not. Gave away some very stupid free kicks in the second half. He's no Henderson from an attacking perspective but he is better defensively. Henderson is like a dog when he presses, he follows the ball and has great stamina so he is able to do this. Allen is far more efficient in his pressing and I'll try and find the stats but he's far more effective in that respect.
