Liverpool v Man City (13:37 BST) Liverpool have been fabulous in the last few weeks - they have been the best team in the country since the turn of the year and have blown a lot of teams away with their attacking football. Continue reading the main story “Liverpool have to win - I can see Man City winning every game after this one” I was at Anfield for Liverpool's win over Tottenham at the end of March, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The reason Reds fans have enjoyed their home games so much this season is because of the way they have taken teams apart, and keep going for it whoever they are up against. Brendan Rodgers will not change his approach against Manchester City because this is a game that Liverpool really need to win if they are going to lift the title. Because of that, I have a sneaky feeling it might end up being a draw. That will suit City, because I can see them winning every game after this one - including when they go to Everton. Liverpool's remaining Premier League fixtures Man City's remaining Premier League fixtures Wed 16 Apr: Sunderland (h) Sun 20 Apr: Norwich (a) Mon 21 Apr: West Brom (h) Sun 27 Apr: Chelsea (h) Sun 27 Apr: Crystal Palace (a) Mon 5 May: Crystal Palace (a) Sat 3 May: Everton (a) Wed 7 May: Aston Villa (h) Sun 11 May: Newcastle (h) Sun 11 May: West Ham (h) It will be a very open game on Sunday, though. City won't go to Anfield and sit back because they can't. They want to get their dangerous attacking players involved as much as Liverpool do. As far as key men go, City will want to get the ball to David Silva in those pockets of space he finds between midfield and defence, which is where he hurts teams. Liverpool go for 10 wins in a row Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers Liverpool have won nine straight games, which is an amazing achievement, but all good runs end somewhere, and then it is hard to return to winning ways straight away. It will help them that they have five games left so the end is in sight, and so is the prize too. They are playing cup finals every week between now and the end of the season, and it is a huge ask for them to win them all. Liverpool, meanwhile, will want to get Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge up against Martin Demichelis to exploit his lack of pace, because Demichelis does dive in and go to ground really easily. The Reds have been playing to a really high tempo at home and I would expect them to do that again. It means the opposition midfielders have their heads down when the ball comes to them in midfield because they have no space and time. It will be interesting to see how City deal with that, because they have not coped too well when teams have pressed them like that this season. Lawro's prediction: 1-1 George's prediction: This is going to be very interesting. I've been saying all season that Liverpool will fall away but I've been wrong so far. This time, though, I think City have got too much substance and have got the beating of them. 1-3.
One thing I don't like is a lot of pundits saying if we win we will go on to win the league. Thats a lot of pressure and expectation and I still think the game won't be as great as everyone expects and will fall short of all expectations, ending in a draw.
Its also bollox Sure, we'd be in a strong position but there would still be four games remaining and Arsenal have regularly shown us that teams can implode in a instant!
I've no idea just how the game will play out, it could be a classic or a dud. In a lot of ways I don't care provided that we come out with a win or at the very minimum a draw. A win will give us a major push towards going on to win the title but it's not a certainty. A draw merely means that we no longer have our destiny in our own hands.
This^ We still have Chavs to go- not to mention the "lesser" teams. A defeat to any of them could still put City back in pole position.
I obviously want the win but I'd take a draw. Only problem with that is we would then have to beat Chelsea.
No, we have to win. A draw is very bad for us. Even if we won all our remaining games-including Chelsea- City would beat us by winning all of theirs.
Chelsea would, they could only equal our points tally and we have a better goal difference. I think all three will drop points before the season ends.
Chelsea would what? Maybe we will all drop points, but we can't accurately predict the outcome of all future games. The fact is that winning the trophy is currently in our hands- it only remains so if we beat City.
Should say "Chelsea wouldn't". They wouldn't be able to beat us if we drew one game bar goal difference
I never said they could. I said even if we beat Chelsea, City could overtake us unless we beat them(City).
Just looked back and realised I misread it As I said though, I think all three will drop points at some point. I also said I wanted the win.
I know. You did say you'd take the draw, though, and I was just pointing out that a draw hands the initiative back to City. We can't rely on others dropping further points- imo, if we want to be true champions, Sunday's game is the type of challenge we need to rise to. Whatever happens, it's great. I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a league season.
I did say I'd take the draw but also said I wanted the win. Basically, what I meant was we can't afford to lose so anything is better than nothing.
Emailed to me from the club this morning Dear The game between Liverpool and City at Anfield on Sunday 13th April 2014 will mark 25 years since the tragedy at Hillsborough. As a mark of respect, the match will begin 7 minutes later than scheduled with kick off now at 1:37pm. This is in recognition of the fact that the FA Cup semi-final on 15 April 1989 ended six minutes after kick-off. There will be a range of activities dedicated to the 96 Liverpool fans and the families of those lost their lives. This includes a large banner that the Club have provided at the request of a number of fans which you may be asked to help hold. Please join everyone at Manchester City Football Club as we show our respect to the supporters who lost their lives, their families, and our friends at Liverpool Football Club. Thank you in advance for your co-operation. Kind regards, Supporter Services Manchester City Football Club
Paul, thanks to you and your club for the support that you have given us over the years. It is both appreciated and respected in return.
Graeme Souness says the Premier League title is Liverpool's to lose. The Reds currently top the table and go into this weekend's Super Sunday clash against third-placed Manchester City with a four-point lead over Manuel Pellegrini's men. Carragher not writing off Chelsea But although City have two games in hand on Liverpool, who also have a home game left against second-placed Chelsea, Souness believes the title is in the hands of his former team. "For me, it's for Liverpool to lose," he told Sky Sports News. "You've got destiny in your own hands; you've got two games at home, against your two biggest rivals. "It's not just the three points you take off them [if you win], it's the psychological damage you do to them. The only concern I have got going forward is that none of them have been down this road before. "There will be nerves kicking in, and I think there was a little bit of that when they played Sunderland at home a couple of weeks ago [and won 2-1]. "That's my only concern because, with the kind of football they are playing, you can see them going on and winning every game left." http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ke-psychological-blow-with-victory-at-anfield
