Flanagan's strength is that he's tenacious, which strangely could also be his downfall today against a team who are technically sound. I'll give him a chance but I expect Henderson to drift in from the right and double up on that side.. If we're coming out intent on attacking then I doubt Rodgers would of started him, I expect 2 lines of 4 throughout the game.

I expect Coutinho or Moses to come in for him and Hendo to shift to the RWB. Man this is a crazy decision, the kid has barely even got a game in about a year!!!!

He'll get sent off, the occasion will go to his head as his timing for tackles is terrible...

He played well in that 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates, to be fair. And they had a better team IMO, Fabregas, Nasri, Walcott & Van Persie as their front four.

If I was Agger or Kelly I'd seriously be asking the question of why the **** is Flannagan playing and I'm stuck on the bench?

I wouldn't be surprised if Flannagan thought Rodgers was having a laugh when he said he was starting!

but was playing a little before that game? My big problem is he has barely seen a prem game in over a year! Really hard to just come in and adjust.

Really trying to not kill the kid before he has even kicked a ball but man this is a ****ing strange decision.

His debut was 6 days earlier at home against Man City, so he didn't do too badly there. Its really odd though, as you say, why spend all this time trying to get Kelly fit and giving him sub appearances here and there only to play Flanagan out of nowhere.

Have to agree with IBWT if I was Kelly,Agger, Moses even, I would be really wanting to understand why there wasn't a shift to accommodate one of those players or at least a better selection!

Flanagan!

To be fair Agger is a left sider and Kelly is still not fit.

Stick Toure at RB? Kelly has more minutes under his belt this season than Flanagan does...

Be interesting to hear Rodger's explanation on this one later on

Look on the bright side, the worst that can happen after this round of fixtures is we go 4th, level with Chelsea but behind on GD and possibly either 2 points behind Spurs or 1 point behind Everton and 5 behind Arsenal in 1st.

Well if even you lot (who, let's be fair, tend to big up your players a lot) don't rate this Flanagan, then suddenly my mood has brightened up.

When he came in 2 seasons back he was outstanding against City and then you lot the week later. Had big hope for him but then never pushed on and seemed to get worse in every game he played. Poor passing, poor positional play, his main strength is he is tenacious and loves a tackle, which when timed well is a good thing but because of that is liable to picking up cards and giving away free kicks.

Most of us think he'll be out the door come Jan/Summer to some mid table Championship club so to see him playing ahead of others is a major surprise.
