West Brom have taken points off all our top 4 rivals this season. 1 x draw vs Chelsea, 1 x win vs Utd, 2 x draws vs Everton & 1 x draw vs Tottenham. So 4 points is the most anyone of our rivals will manage against West Brom, which is exactly what we got. Not a disaster at all. It was annoying but overreacting after we don't play fantastically well is getting boring now, even when we beat Stoke, Sunderland etc away we were still getting negative comments throughout the match threads. Like they expect us to play at a 100% every minute of every game this season. If we did that we'd be the greatest side in history and we'd win the title easily.
Colo has been really bad most of this season. Think maybe 2 years ago he makes this list, but not now.
Couldn't agree more. Some of it is tongue in cheek by some posters but I think that's a minority. I tend to avoid the board / match thread after a non-win game as its just not worth it.
Didn't see game. Was out of town. I said before game (half jokingly) that wouldn't surprise me dropping points after Everton. Seems a habbit of ours. Always seem to have a bad game after a good result... as if our players get complacent. Good that spuds and utd drooped points too... but this was a good chance to open a gap. Not sure what we're going to Do with arse and no dm but oddly I'm more optimistic.
A day on from the game and I'm actually still really wound up. I usually calm down after an hour or so but this game really frustrated me. I don't blame Rodgers taking Coutinho off - Cou was struggling the second half and we struggled to keep the ball and we were getting overpowered in midfield. Allen was brought in to give us more control but as bad as Coutinho was, he is still the only link between midfield and attack. Taking him off was understandable, but replacing him with Allen was the mistake. I know it sounds risky but I rather have had Alberto as the replacement as it's a like for like - someone who can thread the ball. Allen would have been good if we were defending a comfortable lead but it was the wrong. Hopefully we can bounce back from this and get a massive 3 points against Arsenal.
He's been injured. when he came back in newcastle went from pardew looking to be sacked to 5th. huge impact... but inevitably he won't last on the list much longer.
Going back on my comment I accept everyone's opinions and to be fair I was pretty angry after the match. My point still stands though. We can't use historical trends to judge whether or not its OKAY to draw against WBA. It happens of course and they took points from many teams this season. I feel like it was our performance that dropped the points and not theirs that gained them though. Prem winning sides do drop points, but most often on days where the opposition plays the game of their lives. We don't lose points then. We lose points when we get complacent and fancy with our tactics. 1 or 16 points ahead means nothing in terms of a top 4 hunt. Its about this year and we were in the position to kick on and cement our future for the next few years. All it needed was a win against a relegation struggling team. United under whiskeynose would have got the win at any cost. We need that mentality when it matters. We can't bottle it. A bit of an overreaction on my part, but at the same time i refuse to accept "well we are still better than last year" as a reason why its fine to put in dire performances like the one yesterday. No one on here is claiming that, but its a general sentiment we have to avoid. No one ran yesterday, they moped about, refused to find space and get into position. Our passing was awful when it mattered. To me it doesn't matter if we are first or last, that isn't acceptable for our club. We are still in control of our destiny and yes its not all doom and gloom. As long as we don't let it happen as much.
