74?, the season Denis Law backheeled yoonited into division 2?

Going by that logic we haven't had a bad season since the late 1950's.

Yoonited had many bad seasons up until Fergie won their first league title in 26 years, your statement shows signs of you being a glory hunter.

The number of times opponents leave the boot in on tackles on Suarez would mean we play against 8 men every week if it were applied #consistently

As always, this is the problem with the referees and now we live in a world where slightly touching a player off the ball is a penalty but this is not a penalty:

The referee are sending a very clear message; get nothing if you stay up but get everything if you go down. Unless you are Suarez and are assumed to be diving when body slammed 2 metres in front of the referee's face.

no consistency to anything astro regarding the refs.

Luis was blatantly hacked and webb never gave pen, his view wasn't obstructed either, how the **** they got away with that no idea(surprised he didn't book luis to be honest, joke!), like the pic you posted how is that not a pen either?

the fa want respect in the game, yet they show none to clubs who get shafted by ****e decisions, cost SC his job as well ffs.

like many pundits have said why cant they come out and explain decisions?, if they got it wrong, hold their hands up say i ****ed up, they see it once, we see several replays, but its the fact they can do as they please and their is NO CONSISTENCY that annoys a lot of clubs.

I'll say again what I said yesterday: Swansea were the best team overall I've seen at Anfield this season. Didn't see the Soton game, and Villa were outstanding for 45 minutes only. The free kick for their second was iffy at best - you could just as easy say Jonjo left his foot in - and the pen was given on the basis that Skrtel has gotten away with so much this season. on its own it was never a pen.

Overall, our defence is dire and that keeper, occasional shot-stopper that he is, will cost us any chance of the title. as previously said, he doesn't move off his line for half the time, and when he does at set-pieces he just flaps like a ****ing windmill. IF we get CL we need a new goalie, full backs and a centre-back. And Masch back, whatever it costs.

Leave it out DD! What gives with this new attitude that I see developing on these pages (and I'm not just picking on you)? It's just not true, this player or that will cost us any chance of the title. At the start of the season very few of us would even voice the suggestion that we could even be in the title shake-up let alone win it. So this very squad of players have got us where we are despite the majority declaring it was not possible. So nobody has or will cost us anything in relation to the title rather they have enhanced the possibility that we may just might win the thing!!!

As for maximising our opportunities for next season then all bets are off regarding all of our players. However, for the rest of this season to ALL of our players THANKS FOR THE RIDE SO FAR AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE REST OF THE GAMES!

I agree with the sentiment of this post. I will just add that criticism of your team and players is like criticising your children. You expect good behaviour as a minimum but poor behaviour results in a telling off!

maybe the hope is returning again for some fans dave, not there myself personally yet (spurs game for me), but was a time where we demanded the best and got the best, its been a long time, but maybe because of the position we are currently in some dont want to see this good opportunity wasted and just voicing their opinions.

agree that i don't think many, if any, expected us to be in this position, and the size of our squad we have done ruddy well, but the fact we are in this position has got some a bit too excited maybe and demanding more than we should realistically expect at this time.

And what do they grow into if you only tell them off for bad behaviour and never give them credit for good? <laugh>

With hand on heart I can claim that since the start of the season I have been saying that we should aim to win the title. My hope was that by doing so we could end the season in the top 4. So I'm very happy that we are where we are today - 4 points off No1 and 6 away from No5. For me it's always been a psychological issue. If we now start pillorying people who got us where we are I just find that unfair. In terms of expectation we are way ahead.

However, I am under no illusions that the squad as it stands is good enough to meet the Premiership and European demands. Some very careful and expensive investment and divestment will be required over the Summer.

True enough, I never expected to get anywhere near the title at the beginning of the season and I only thought we had an outside chance of a CL place. Now I think we could easily nick third place, so expectations have risen, but for that to happen we need 24 points out of 33 left, in my opinion (30 to win the league, but that won't happen). I think we'll struggle not to drop 9 points for the rest of the season with that defence and goalie, especially if Studge or Suarez, God forbid, get injured, or Coutinho, Stirling and tire more. My feelings now are that United won't be as dire next season as this, City and Chelsea will again splurge on more signings and arsenal may be forced to spend big too, so let's not miss this window as I fear greatly if we do. Possibly our best chance to win it too, but that's an outside hope I wouldn't have entertained even three months ago.

All in all, and especially after the Brom slip up and just edging the last two games, I think a little chastisement is called for though.

Why, do you think they're listening?:)
Will our chastisement be a jolt to players who are drifting along with a smugly complacent belief that all in the garden is rosy?
We're only beating ourselves (or each other) up over this, I doubt that there's anyone on here or at the club who doesn't realise that there's still a lot of improvement to be done.
But it will take time. We've come a long way, but we've still got a lot to do. The process won't be accelerated by us going on about it all the time.

The match wasn't on at my usual haunt, so I went to another club. Luckily, there were a couple of people in there who I know, one a Red. There wren't many in, but most of them were mancs. They went berserk every time Swansea scored. At the end of the match, I went for a piss. When I came out, I asked them "Do you remember when you used to grind out results like that?". A sweet moment <laugh>

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers pleased with Reds' resilience
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says his team have shown they have the character to maintain their push for a Champions League place.

The Reds tightened their grip on fourth spot in the Premier League with a 4-3 win over Swansea at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool in the Premier League in 2014
    1 Jan: Liverpool 2-0 Hull

    12 Jan: Stoke 3-5 Liverpool

18 Jan: Liverpool 2-2 Aston Villa

    28 Jan: Liverpool 4-0 Everton

2 Feb: West Brom 1-1 Liverpool

    8 Feb: Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal

    12 Feb: Fulham 2-3 Liverpool

    23 Feb: Liverpool 4-3 Swansea

"We know we can score goals and if we're not having one of our better days we have the character and resilience to keep fighting," Rodgers said.

"The strong part of our game came through."

He continued: "Our offensive game is very aggressive and we've got goals in the team but we're disappointed with the goals we conceded."

Liverpool have taken 17 points from a possible 21 since their 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on 29 December, and they are only four points behind Jose Mourinho's Premier League leaders, who have still to visit Anfield.

But Rodgers remains cautious about his team's title prospects.

"We're just focusing on winning games and no-one's really talking about us for the title," he said. "Everything's about Chelsea, [Manchester] City and Arsenal. We'll continue trying to improve.

"We've been outstanding this season but we've still got 11 games to go and there's a lot of work to do."
