Agreed - it's a combination of things. Our players seem to switch off when it comes to positioning and marking.
We are always going to allow teams to get crosses in because we rely on the FBs providing the width in attacking positions, they simply can't be in two places at once. The space in front of the defence is the area that bugs me but I don't think Brod likes the idea of a DM/HM sat there. He never did it with Lucas who was told to be part of the midfield. None of our CM's track runners and our CB's never step out of line either, this happens far too often for it to be bad play, it has to be a Brod tactic.
I think that BR's tactics are simply to press the ball further up the pitch.....losing possession carelessly often costs us as then we are out of position....It drives me nuts....this will cost us top four if we don't address it.
The immediate tactic is to press (get it back in seven seconds) but then after that its a case of dropping into position and holding shape which involves very little closing down. Maybe this is to preserve energy since chasing the ball whenever we've not got it is going to destroy their engines. This is why I've been saying we need a DM along the Macherano lines to sit in the gap; reads the game, good acceleration, pace and not scared of a tackle. they don't need to be part of the seven seconds thing if sitting deeper and can be our legs when we do drop off.
sturridge, suarez, coutinho, henderson, sterling.. type of players that should press full backs shouldn't be pressing.... the only excuse for a full back to sit off is if he's worried about the overlapping full back making it 2 on 1.... look again at johnson snuggled under skertl's win in the box or worse just letting the ball past him if a winger is on our byline...
I agree. You named five attacking players there which leaves five that are primarily there to defend which fits in with what I was saying
I don't want to count our chickens before they've hatched but if we beat Villa then we will more than likely be eight points ahead of the mancs come Sunday evening. They are away to Chelsea and they're missing Rooney and RvP too.
Why did you have to go and say that. You know the rules: You can think we are going to win You can vote in a poll we are going to win BUT YOU NEVER ACTUALLY SAY IT OR PUT IT INTO PRINT!
what a load of children you are have the courage of your convictions say it loud and say it proud if you believe we will win - say so this karma thing is a load of crap
Keep Benteke quiet and get at their defenders. Just need to be wary of their pace on the counter and make sure we take our chances this time unlike in the game last year when we had about 30 efforts, but only about 5 on target and most were easy saves.
