Well if Sunderland play with wingers Henderson and Enrique wont be able to attack too much so it will end up being 5 at the back and with gerrard and lucas both sitting in front it could be 7 players defending for alot of the game. Dont expect much of a game if thats the case. 0-0 or 1-0 either way I reckon.

I really hope it's not 3 at the back, I'd rather see Toure play RB. I was hoping for some change in personnel, maybe drop one of Gerrard or Lucas and given Hendo a start in midfield. Shame about Alberto, I don't get why BR is not giving him a ****ing chance to prove his worth. What a waste of money. Bothers me even more, when He was probably preferred over Eriksen, who is obviously a different class yet cost only 3 million more.

I like that system - It means Hendo and Enrique can push forward with Lucas being able to provide cover. It also allows us to play Suarez and Sturridge together without a static 4-4-2. 4-4-2 was a nightmare against Southampton (although mainly due to 4 CB's!). I think the UTD game shows that the 3 CB formation can work nicely - It just needs polishing a bit, as for the team it's a relatively new system. But if played correctly it can be very offensive, and also offers a good solid defence. We'll wait and see - but for me, until Johnson is back it is definitely our best formation. Playing Toure as a RB offers very little going forward
Without Cout he should push Gerrard up, his duty creat and close in their half, not box to box I think Stevie looks a bit bored playing so deep

Looks like a 3-5-2 which can be very attacking. Hendo was brilliant last time he was playing the right wingback role imo, and Enrique gets more license to push on. Toure really enjoys those lung bursting runs forward and trying to contribute (he's not half bad at it either!) but that still leaves Skrtel, Sakho and Lucas to cover. Plenty of protection defensively for Gerrard and lets Suarez, Moses and Studge do whatever they want. If the players click into the formation fast, it could work well. I thought we played well against United in a similar system but just didn't take our chances unlike United. Lets do it
I think Gerrard was pushed back, because he's doesn't really fit into the one touch, tiki taka football that BR wants further up the field. He's better playing the Alonso role, sitting deep and dicating play. But I think's he's been really poor lately, and tends to drift out in 2nd half. BR needs to start taking him off. Another season of playing 'every minute of the PLcampaign' is not going to do the team any favor.
Johnson lost all automotive function for a second there. Hope he's ok....should see a neurologist about that.
