UPDATE: Been watching the match in the office, few sneaky attacks from behind but finger has been on the mouse ready to switch to spreadsheet. Pre-season isn't just for the footballers you know!
Not to further any racial stereotypes but surely if there's any time we should be going long to Carroll it's against the Chinese! Also was interested to see the other day that his season in the Championship that our rivals mocked him for 'only' scoring 17 goals and less than Chopra etc, well he also got 8 assists. so 25 goal contributions in 33 starts and 6 sub appearances. Does reflect consistent form to me rather than a '6 month wonder'. Oh and he loves dropping to the back post and hammering a volley like the one he just missed, watch his goals reel.
Chris, what is your take on this formation. What we will see for the year? ( 4-3-3) or do you think we might see some other formations tried?
Conor Coady and Andre Wisdom were the two that were tipped to make the break-through.It looks like the tipsters were correct. However Raheem Sterling who should sign professional in December when he turns 17 will be the next one.
I think we will try a wide range of formations this pre-season. I can then see us changing formations through-out the season to make sure that we aren't too predictbale in our formations.
Ya, I think 4-3-3 will be our bread and butter but with the amount of midfielders, depending on wingers, I can see us going diamond, flat four with Carroll/Kuyt and Suarez. It is good that we have some options now. With Adam and Gerrard I think we also have a good range of passing back in our team, short and sharp, or the occasional (let's hope) hollywood ball.
