England humiliated again and will continue to be humiliated by only having a limited choice of players to choose from due to the foreign players playing in most of the premiership sides and sometimes not a single British player on the field. If fans cant see that this is the reason that England has to field good but average players that would not be considered in most top teams then they are blind. The media are to blame also for the over the top Hype given to some players and as for the front page of the sun " We are through" rubbish then we think we are better than we are.....The sun and England are a laughing stock now and will be the butt of jokes and belittlement for years to come. It has now been confirmed that Roy will continue to manage England until 2016 and that is the right choice as its not his fault he only has average players to choose from. .Nobody wants to ban foreign players but there is a need to put a cap on the number that can play in any one game and force teams to bring on the British talent which there is plenty waiting for a chance but dont get it because of preference of foreign players.....A big shake up is needed or British international teams will always be second rate....
Well we all should be able to agree the standard of player is quite poor but I put forth a list of sorts and got told he had lots of good players My only thought right now of an England side in 12 moths would be Hart Walker Cahill jagielka Baines Henderson whilshire Barkley Sterling sturridge OX- chamberlain Sorry but it's not great.... Not when you see no cb cover of note, little option off bench especially upfront or midfield unless you say lallana and Rooney That midfield will not get past Germany in the euros will it? At least up top there's pace all over but can they be made play with intensity and press high up?
Since 1966 though - you can't use that simple excuse. And please don't quote the s*** rag on this board [no offence to you btw]
What utter bull. If true, why are there no players in the current squad that are plying their trade in the Championship or lower? Cream rises. The best English players are mixing it with the foreign imports!
What? Walker? Have you been watching this season? The reason Johnson (!) walked into the England team is that Walker has been ****e. I'd prefer Jones at R/B. But you're otherwise right about the way forward, and indeed our last game against CR (they may well rest some players anyway). I'd play Lampard as a thank you and goodbye, with this team:- Hart, Jones, Cahill, Jagielka, Shaw Sterling, Henderson, Lampard, Barkley, Welbeck Sturridge With Lallana, Wilshire and Ox to come as as/when req. Apart from Lampard, the new generation as much as possible. And DON'T drop Woy yet. See if we qualify for the Euros and see how we than do.
true, but without wishing to quote it again I can't help but think that some enterprising Uruguayans gave Luis a copy of their fatuous "Get well slowly, Suarez" headline to help motivate him.
I agree Gerrard made the main error, you're right about that but can you talk me through at what point Suarez becomes offside mate.
It's a case of wrong place, wrong time. It could have been a clean header for him if Cavani hadn't run directly in front of him, thus putting him off while also shielding his sighting of the ball - as it was he didn't have the momentum going into the header and Cavani's sudden appearance in front of him made it worse, you could say he was unlucky to be on the end of the trajectory of the ball, whoever it had been was always going to be the one who handed Suarez number two. But the fact remains it was him - as for what he could have done instead, I don't know, not jumped??
He's quite a bit offside in that picture, which would be when Cavani would've headed the ball on had he got the touch and not Gerrard. I would draw a line on the picture to show that he's offside but I can't be arsed
Gerrard was poor on both games IMO. However, for that goal I'd blame the CBs. Why have they not reacted in case like Suarez did?
Looking at that picture Suarez is the most forward player - that's all. He is only deemed offside if Cavani touches the ball, and he doesn't. I was looking for what sequence of events make him offside? Put it this way, if you were learning about football or were on a referees course and they showed you that picture and said is the player in blue offside, what do you answer? It would surely be something like ' I need to know what has just happened, who has just touched the ball .... it isn't as straight forward as yes or no'.
I agree they showed poor judgement and I agree with mito all 3 have some blame but as Gerrard is the one who touched the ball, it must lie mostly with him.
Is that like an og hitting off you when trying to do your job or like just being crap? What we need is a figure les scorned that Danny mills to do an analysis of every action leading to the goal.... Who's seen one?
To answer the first point a bit of both, wrong place wrong time you're the one the ball comes down on but also rubbish decision in jumping for the header ... I don't know. Second point - yes - it's a 3D animation but shows all the action, as a real life video with as much info just doesn't seem to be out there.
You said he was level with Cahill when Gerrard/Cavani headed the ball, and that if Cavani had flicked it on he would've been onside anyway! I was just responding to that.
I don't think I did say that because he would definitely have been offside if Cavani headed it. Anyway mate I'm only trying to get a discussion going on something, it's pretty slow right now, not picking on you honest
How can he not leap for a header.. He can't know cavani is coming IMO...... Therefore at least he takes personal responsibility and it's again IMO cavani a leap that causes the deflection as he's put Gerrard off as Gerrard was backing up trying to get under it while the rest of midfield was ten yards further up I must say there are many things which might have or what ifs but taking personal responsibility is no bad thing. After that I believe as the ball is kicked both cbs are well placed a second later they are badly placed. Videos are quite clear on that IMO Whether Gerrard was total muck all tournament or not and whether you hate him or love him I think assigning blame on the basis of the ball falling at Suarez toe from Gerard's head is going too far given I still think 9/10 the ball will fall differently and it won't be a goal Simple as that. Their first goal required class from cavani and Suarez, their second was a combination of pure luck then a classic Suarez speed of thought and strike
I agree that Cavani running in, put Gerrard off. Gerrard was backing up looking at the flight of the ball and could have kept backing up to take it on his chest or take it down with his foot had Cavani not raced in front of him and forced him to head it from a half hearted leap, also him not knowing that had he left it for Cavani, Suarez would have been offside, didn't help. A little 'leave it' shout from the cb's who were looking to play Suarez offside, would have helped but while I also agree with you that taking responsibility isn't a bad thing, sometimes that taking of responsibility and holding your ground plays right into the oppositions hands. I think he will be held personally responsible for England's results and that's totally unjustified and the announcement today that Lampard will captain for the final game - while nice end for his England career [should it actually be his last game and no similar shockers emerge in the Costa game] - also means Gerrard goes out of the WC and maybe his England career on a low note. I would have started him and given him a chance to put some other more positive images in fans and pundits heads before handing over to Lampard for the 2nd half.
