I’m never a believer in “better than no-one” I’m currently recruiting (which is tough) but I won’t settle for anyone over no-one. That usually fails.
I think the rot starts at the top and for me Kruger has never made any sense. I am aware of the controversies that surrounded Nicola, but i would trust him to steady our ship more than i would most, say what you will about him but that man could run a football club. Sadly i know that will never come to pass.
We certainly need someone who is driven and has a clear vision. I didn’t like everything about Cortese but you can. Ever like everything in a leader, that’s part of how they reach the top. They have to be ruthless when necessary.
Would be nice to have someone on the board who knows something about football, but I don’t include BFS in that. We’d be going backwards if we brought him in. Unless there’s a significant input of funds to improve the squad in certain areas (which is unlikely to happen), I think we’re going to be bouncing around in 16th to 20th place, I fear.
Indeed. Just look at when Harry tried out being a DoF for the first time (at Pompey in the early 2000s). Graham Rix was sacked as manager within about 5 minutes, and Harry jumped down into the dugout. From memory, I think Harry even started to involve himself before Rix was sacked.
And that worked out well didn’t it, in the long term! Sparky is not everyone’s choice, I get that, bit confused myself at times. But all this current malaise started ages ago and many on here have eloquently elaborated on that, therefore Sparky is in my view likely to stay, because the squad he’s got is average or less as a result of months/years inadequate coaching and direction. He’s been trying things based on what he sees in coaching sessions and what he’s learning about with the players themselves. Hence some questions on selection we all have. However I don’t want to see us go down the road of Everton and West Ham, few of their supporters wanted Sam to stay or arrive in many cases! Hughes is getting better performances from some of our earlier buys but needs to find the blend and help the confidence levels of the rest. Keep the faith, get a couple of good loans in January and this dark winter might shed some light eventually!!
As I said early in this thread, the Big Sam interview on talkSport and the sacking of LR seemed "interesting". At the end of the week on the breakfast show, Big Sam slagged off our managerial desicions over the past few years in selling al, our top players, poor recruitment of players and lack of ambition. Ummm. Would I mind him as DoF? No I wouldn't as long as the cheque book is kept in a different office and the transfer committee controlled ins and outs
