This news actually makes me feel sick in the stomach. I dont care whether people try to rationalise it in any way they can. We shoulda been able to secure him to a contract, he is our second best player (some would argue best), our club captain, a leeds united fan and yet we cannot secure him to a contract. Thats ****, this one hurts the most for me, more than beckford and certainly more than gradel.
This is our second year in the Championship. It shouldn't be about getting to the Prem, it should be about stabilization. Players shouldn't stay for the Premier League they should stay because they are loyal and grateful to the club. But no time and time again they have excuses. Max was homesick, Jonny wants to play in the Prem, Bradley Johnson wanted to be treated (paid) the same as the stronger members of the team like Snodgrass ect. As I said we're in our second season in the Championship mid table (which is good because pretty much every team does worse in their second year in a new league, look up second season syndrome) some teams in the league have been in here for nearly a decade like Cardiff. What I hate about our fans is we have way to high expectations. Pre 10/11 season- Aim was to avoid Relegation Post 10/11 season- Threw a fit because we missed out on play offs. We spend as much as the likes of Coventry on players but achieve positions with the likes of Hull, Birmingham ect. What I'm saying is if players want to leaves, they can give what ever excuse they want and you can make up what ever excuse for them wether it be they didn't want to work under grayson or bates, wanted more money, wanted the Prem, wanted to play for a more "ambitious" team. In my eyes they have deserted the club full stop. If Howson leaves he deserves all he gets. Leeds gave him the captaincy of this club and the fans gave him their heart, if he deserts us for a club he has no association with because they are one league higher (and might not even be next season). He has no half decent reason to leave the club only greed or disloyalty to the club.
Same, but it isn't our or Bates fault is Howson wants to leave. I can't believe Howson would want to leave but crazy **** happens especially been born & raised Leeds which would make it even more disgraceful if he leaves.
So a new morning and I have a new feeling on this one... Reading back over past statements made by Howson that 'he expects to sign a new contract soon' and the timing of this being the transfer window, I am wondering if he had a genlemanly chat with Grayson saying he wanted premiership football and maybe it isn't about the money. Norwich fans have said themselves they have a cap of between £12k and £15k so I don't believe some reports that he is asking anywhere near £20k. I am wondering if the contract was not signed until he had some idea himself was this team going to get promoted. Maybe Grayson asked him not to request a move until the window and see if premiership footie could be achieved with Leeds. If this is the case we are outside the playoffs, a blind man and his dog can see we lack ambition in the transfer market and it would only take a dressing room chat between the likes of Clayton, Snodgrass and Lees maybe hinting that they were not going to be signing new contracts so Howson thought sod this, we are not going anywhere?
