Hi folks! First opportunity to get on-line after what was one of the most 'gripping' Grand Prix races in history. What a fantastic race. I would also like to declare that the concerns I have had about what I have called 'gimmicky' tyres, and the under-utilisation of KERS and DRS have - in this one race - proved to be unfounded. Great! I love to be wrong when this is the result! An absolutely fantastic spectacle. My congratulations to the whole of FOM. - - - Wow! What a race! Two of the most outstanding drives of recent years, Hamilton and Webber were magnificent. There were other outstanding drives and all sorts of incident worth a mention at some other time but ultimately my 'driver of the day' has to be Hamilton. I held my breath as he passed Button; full credit to McLaren for letting them race and not intervening - it is hard to conceive of another front running team sitting back and watching their drivers courting disaster like that. Very well done to McLaren for such heroic mentality. And very well done to Button for demonstrating to all that F1 car mirrors do work! His last moment correction when he saw Hamilton is the reason they both finished. Top geezer. And what a fantastic drive from Webber eh? Compromised throughout the weekend with all sorts of dramas and a disastrous team misjudgement in qualifying, he showed what that Red Bull car and a bit of determination can do. I am pleased that my prediction for Vettel to win the race proved to be wrong. His poor start was an essential ingredient to the spectacular show we got. Had he got away on the first lap, I am quite confident that he would have fulfilled my prediction of driving off into the distance and out of sight. As it was, it unsettled him and he hurt his tyres because he had to fight. Enough for now. I want to have a look through what I've missed here and what's been said. Cheers. é
It was a Brilliant race, not the best I've seen, but the best I've seen in a while. Wasn't just a few laps of fun, its was start to finish excitement. The DRS seemed to be positioned with a reasonable length and the tires gave enough scope for reasonable 2 and 3 stoppers. Really set up the last 5 laps well Like you say Cosicave Hamilton and Webber were the drivers of the day. I'd also say Massa really had a good showing today, and Rosberg to a lesser extent. I do feel however that Webber only has himself to blame for his poor grid slot so for that reason I'd say Hamilton was the man of the day (and yes quali was on sat not sun ). Was happy to see Massa mixing it with the 'big boys' again, was a little sad to see his decline. Hopefully he will be allowed to fight Alonso and bring a 'new' name into front running battles by mid season. Was really pleased with the race, worth waking up for
Great race. I'm still waiting for a penalty to Vettel for moving more than once at the start of the race
wow what a great race. I had no clue who was going to win out of the top 6 for a long time. Damn Button for screwwing up his pit stop but I guess I was right to think he had a chance of winning. Hats off to Mark Webber. Its about time he had a good race without further bad luck. Also what is everybodys view on what the Pit mechanic at Red Bull said when being interviewed on the bbc. He kind of suggested the Pit mess up by Button was preconceived by McLaren to put the Red Bull team of their concentration? He kind of said it in jest to David Coulthard, But to Jake he suggested it in a more serious tone.
It wasn't deliberate, it was a rare scenario for Vettel to be following Button in that closely so they couldn't have decided on it beforehand. If they'd radioed JB on entry to the pit Race Control would've heard it and I think both McLarens would've been black flagged. It definitely hampered Vettel though, they'd timed his stop to get him out in front of Heidfeld and the time they lost while the pit crew got out of the way and back into position meant he came out behind and got held up.
Absolute nonsense. JB just had brain fade. It cost Vettel less than 1 second, but he might have been laughing his head off at JB's mistake.
In truth it actually cost Jenson more than Vettel, If I recall, the Red Bull left the pit before the McLaren.
Well, Lewis won the race so it must be right then, but just how do they explain the tiny fact whereby Hamilton overtook Vettel.
